I prefer Magicians but Genies is great too for sure

      I'm expecting around an 8.5

      it deserves a 7.4 but it'll get 8.6

It will get an 8.6. Best of IIN/Skiffs in the No Covid timeline should have gotten a 9.2.

Just listened to the leak for the first time after sitting on it. Genie's was my favorite from the boots but it feels weak in the studio. The transition in from SC and the opening were beautiful but the hurdy gurdy and bass needed more punch, same with the synth arpeggios in the last part. Still a lot to love about the song but it's definitely the worst case of demoitis for me. Pretty much everything else is perfection, especially Magicians, Stride, and Defeat. Defeat into Gem made me laugh out loud, probably not in a good way. I'm guessing it works better when you have to flip the record over.

ATCAB worried me at first but I've now listened to it 5 times in the 30 minutes since finishing my first listen. Delicious candy.

Kings Road is kind of disappointing to me. There’s just not much going on there.

Filtered. King's Walk is one of my faves. For the real heads only.

King's Walk is great, very well produced, but the whole album has sequencing issues that can't be solved without bringing in Skiffs tracks. For King's to work as a closer it needed to bring the album down after a cathartic and explosive penultimate track, instead it comes after acab and feels like the second secret bonus song.

I've messed with the sequencing a lot and came to the same conclusion regarding TS tracks, but at the same time a lot of the mixing and aesthetic differences make adding them in a no go. Skiffs has more of an americana-exotica jazz influence which keeps stuff that would thematically fit here from working, like Dragon Slayer (kind of inseparable from Car Keys imo) and Royal & Desire. Passer-by is kind of similar in production to Gem & I, but that's more because Gem fits better with Skiffs than IIN both in sound and lyrics. Prester John is really the only one that fits well with the IIN tracks and that's still despite the mixing being different.

          This is a better sequencing

needs Prester John between SC and Stride, though I've also started to not like where Gem & I is. I haven't tested it but I've been thinking something like this could be good:

          Magicians
          Soul
          Genie's
          Gem
          Clubs
King's (this could probably still be the first track, but it also works nicely as a mid-album interlude (like Drone from Tomboy) that splits the album into day and night halves)
          Prester
          Stride
          Broke
          Defeat

I'm glad they ditched the glitchy thing going on in broke zodiac

the high pitched synth in the 2019 version was the best part of the song tbh

True, and anyone who disagrees just has a bad case of demoitis that will obviously fade with time, just like with every great anco song…

The aquatic reverby bombastic vibe of live genies suited the song much better tbh. Can understand why they chilled it out for the album though, and it’s still a dope track, one of the best on IIN. Stride Rite demoitis is palpable and justified, unfortunately.

The sea of light part really makes me think of The Greatful Dead. I also sorta think AnCo are sorta like the Dead's children, they learned so much from them about how to even be a band and their relation to music.

Also Deak is quite POWERFUL on Stride Rite.

the leak is two weeks old, all the diehards already came and went and now it's just the stragglers. The actual release will see another uptick in discussion. Still, I'm guessing the number of active users that care about AnCo these days is less than a quarter of what it was back in the day.
