Friend of a friend is willing to sell his 03 baja to me for 6k

Friend of a friend is willing to sell his 03 baja to me for 6k

175k miles on the odo he claims he did a motor and trans swap with the motor having paperwork showing it only has 65k miles on it but no paperwork for the transmission, says it has a check engine light due to o2 sensors

Is 6k a decent deal or should I try to lowball him

    >cel for o2 sensors on older subi
checks out, might just need to be torqued down. I would check it with an obdii anyway, but I would say go for it unless it has major rust/structural wear

$4.5k with the CEL on asking price if he fixes the sensors. CEL = no smog. Third party inspection at a Wheel Works or Firestone & smog papers in-hand. But the car is nice, so let him decide if he wants to spend $200 and an hour to make $6k.

By the way, I'm interested in such a car and this is the offer I'd make.

Take it for a test drive on the highway for 20/30 minutes. That should let you know if the heads r fuk. Them drive it to the Midwest and sell it for $12000

    >Subaru with almost 200k miles on it
    >130k mile junkyard engine that he "only" put 65k more miles on
    >Mystery transmission
    >CEL is totally the O2 sensors bro, quick fix but I don't have time
    $6k asking price
This guy is about to frick you raw. Hope you have your monkeypox vaccine.

OP here, bought it for 4k after being israeli.

But the fella and his dad were real honest folk despite being black, well versed in their vehicle lore and it seems like it was in good hands so I will take it to a shop and see whats up for sure

Either way I know for a fact I could sell it for more, they just wanted it gone so whatever, good little shitbox to drive into the desert with for funsies

Not him but why would that matter? Are the manuals a lot more expensive or desired? I figured these days everyone drove auto

It's more fun and makes the baja way more valuable

I owned a suzuki samurai for the better part of a decade and honestly I got over the novelty of manual pretty fast. I could see if you raced your vehicle or owned a big truck so being in mega fine control as necessary but I just don't see the obsession with manual in a daily driver

Autotragic subarus are inferior to manual subarus. They get cucked gearing and are often front bias awd. Gross.

Even if you have to do heads don't get intimidated by it. If you can turn a ratchet you can pull the engines on these generation Subatus it is very easy.

My buddy has a turbo baja and...its okay Its basically just an outback with an open bed thats too small to really be useful. The interior is kind of cramped also. The outback would be easier to find and in way better shape in that price range and it simply has more room to fit stuff. I moved furniture in one before that would've never made it into the Baja. They're really cool cars but riding and occasionally driving one often, Im a bit underwhelmed compared to when I had never seen one. I wouldnt go for it anon especially with its questionable engine and transmission swaps, and the "juat trust me bro" fix it needs.

He already bought it...for $4,000. It was a steal and he should be happy.
