Fall is here. How can someone dress in a dark academia style but not come off as too LARPy?

I don’t want to look like I’m wearing a costume but I refuse to wear plastic shoes and stretchy garbage clothes

dress slacks (make sure they’re pleated)
wool sweaters & cardigans (chunky or thin depending on how cold it is)
    dress shoes or boots
accessories made from wool like ties and scarves
sportscoats from tweed, flannel and wool
its a pretty simple style all things considered

It’s just tip but don’t go with those ugly checkered madras shirts and gth pants, opt for heavier material like pleated wool pants, dark green or oxblood chinos. Darker Pants with a crease work well too.
Combine that with a oxford button down, preferably in an off white color or one white with light blue stripes and wear a good quality sweater over it.
Ralf Lauren also released a very nice corduroy button down shirt last season:

Another great option for tops are turtle neck sweaters.

Combine that with a sports coat, preferably in some kind of brownish color and checkered. Those are best thrifted.

Don’t buy stuff from asos, H&M, etc. Dark Academia is derived from a tip or old money aesthetic, so go for according brands and high quality clothes. Avoid anything that isn’t at least 90% natural material.

Make sure you’re reasonably smart/ attractive otherwise this look will kill your social standing. Don’t overdo it, you can probably combine with more casual styles to make it less jarring. Also avoid cardigans like the plague.

    Apart from that… you’re good

      for me it’s:
      >WASP parents that are well off
      >did poorly in school and joined military after high school but got shit together and went to college
      >ivy league educated
      >got a decent job with huge potential earning potential
      >in an office role at a F500
      >the company is in manufacturing
      >surrounded by manual labor blue collar stupids wearing greasy t-shirts and running shoes
I feel I have the background and everything, but I work in the most un-/fashion/ sort of environment ever. If I dress up even slightly nice people think I’m showing off and ask why

          >humble brag
I’m not being humble. I’m better than the people around me and I know it. And once I have some more experience in my role I’ll be in charge

You should ignore the Harry Potter shit and buy very expensive suits, and mention their exact cost at every opportunity. Refer to yourself in the third person as “the guy in the 3000 suit.” Perhaps then the hoi polloi will cow to you.

I really like the Dark Academia and tip looks.
Pic related is about how far I’m willing to go in order to capture some of that look while being 100% comfortable that I’m not intruding in larp territory.

That’s easy: be in academia. (You don’t want to be in academia.)
