Scots are literally just Anglo-Saxons in denial
Also Scotland is the kingdom that unified Britain (Stuarts) and they were an integral driving force in imperial politics.

I feel like Trevor-Roper was unironically going senile when he wrote this, he implies that The Brus and The Wallis are modern forgeries and that there was literally no Scottish literature written before the 1700s.

That's true in the Lowlands and how the Scots language overtook Gaelic and Norn. But Scotland has always been a hodge-podge of Celtic and Germanic. You had Picts, Britons from Strathclyde, Irish in Galleway and the Higlands, Angles in Lothian and Norse in Shetland, Orkney and Hebrides.

Not to mention how they imported Normans, Bretons and Flemish into their ruling class. So in a lot of ways Scotland was a lite-England except they retained a semi-Celtic character in the northeast.

My earlier post did mention the Highlands which is where Dal Riata was founded by Irish tribes which is where the strongest concentration of Celtic Scotland is.

                >where the strongest concentration of Celtic Scotland
Virtually no one speaks Gaelic in argyll and Gaelic never came from Ireland and the Dalriadans claimed to come from Spain not Ireland

      Correct.
The Scots ran out of money in 1701 and sold Scotland to the English.
They are still a basket case 300 years later.

The Scots ran out of money and the United Kingdom was born when the English baild out Scotland.

The Scottish economy was severely impacted by privateers during the 1688–1697 Nine Years' War and the 1701 War of the Spanish Succession, with the Royal Navy focusing on protecting English ships. This compounded the economic pressure caused by the Darien scheme, and the seven ill years of the 1690s, when 5–15% of the population died of starvation.

Spent on building and outfitting ships and supplies for the failed colonization. The money lost was about 1/5 of the Scottish currency in circulation and went to England, Scainadvia, the Low Countries and France from all the infrastructure and logistics.

Admittedly, there's no denying that the Highland Clearances were targeted at ethnic Gaels who lived in a "traditionally Gaelic" lifestyle.
That being said, things like the Gentleman Adventurers of Fife indicate that urbanized Scots themselves were willing to undertake that sort of anti-Gaelic action.
IMO it would be more accurate if we dropped the notion that "Scotland" is homogeneous, and instead acknowledged that the Gaelic speaking peripheral peoples were indeed oppressed, but the urban Burgher class of Scotland itself was instrumental in that oppression.

The same thing happened in the rest of Britain, it was just called something else (Enclosure).

Making laws that lead to the essentially deportation of 1 million people from Scotland and total destruction of rural Scotland then Glasgow too

It's basically the Scots-speaking Lowlanders against the Gaelic-speakinf Highlanders. Also a Catholic vs Protestant divide since the Lowlands are the home of Presbyterianism while the Highlands largely remained Catholic.

          >Catholic vs Protestant divide since the Lowlands are the home of Presbyterianism while the Highlands largely remained Catholic
No part of Scotland remained majority Catholic past the 1600s except the Southern Western Isles.
          >basically the Scots-speaking Lowlanders against the Gaelic-speakinf Highlanders
Which is why those clearances impacted all of Scotland but the central belt

Mutually beneficial until WW1 at which point Scotland should have fought for independence and revived Gaelic or Pictish as their national language to avoid the Anglo-American cultural erosion of the current day.

Still possible, don't give up hope, independent Scotland in our lifetime but it remains to be seen if the SNP can stop obsessing over gays and trannies and focus on actual Scottish nationalism

You're deluded. Scottish Nationalism today is fuelled by the desire to be more left wing than the Tories in England allow.
Scotland's role model societies are places like Canada or Sweden or New Zealand. They'll never be like Poland or Hungary.

I am English and I do my part for the union and undermine independence by letting the Scots I know about the SNP plans to allow children to become trannies, asking them what the SNP even means by a feminist foreign policy, and all the other retarded shit they try to pull. Keep your foreign opinion to yourself, the whole SNP shtick is to destroy
