You know what's interesting? I don't need a degree in anything to open an engineering firm.

      Anonymous

you also don't need a degree in engineering to be a good engineer. In fact its likely a detriment.

No. The guy who makes breakfast at the diner has an engineering degree and I’ve never seen Eggs Sardou assembled so masterfully.

You don't need medical degree to administer a hospital/clinic/pharmacy.

to be the owner of a pharmacy you need the pharmacy degree (obligatory)

Wtf? How does that work. Are there no publicly traded chain drug stores? All drug stores there are owned by pharmacist?

Lol, you're wagies who do not understand business at all. I most definitely do not need to be a doctor or engineer to open a hospital or engineering firm. I just have to hire a doctor or engineer to work for me.

        Stop thinking like wagie children.

Yeah, but electricians are at risk of dying every day. All I do is mind numbing repetitive computer work. The cost on my body has been immense since I went from 80kg to 100kg.

I want a statistic of the percentage of engineers that learned to code for double the money and half the work.

      Anonymous

I debate doing that every day. If I could do a Chem eng degree I’m confident I could learn to code. Some of my classes even involved learning to code basic shit in Python and Matlab.

A good programmer usually starts off during their teens because they have an authentic interest in it, but you need to get your code ironed out by passing university so you can have some certifications. There is no such thing as a self taught programmer.

Coding bootcamps can teach you how to code. What exactly does the degree teach you? Even out of work boomers are starting to learn code.

          Anonymous

          >What exactly does the degree teach you?
conventions, tech, logic, good practices, patterns, anti patterns, common mistakes, general algorithms, basically all that you'll need to know, a bootcamp will only get you working for a specific task

Damn I regret taking a master's in engineering. I specialized in polymers, nanomaterials, and nanocomposites... fuckin useless. Can't find a job for the life of me. After 6 months, I've only managed to land 3 real interviews (and 5 AI interviews). I should have studied metals. Nanomaterials were relevant 10 years ago. Nowadays they are too specialized so the jobs typically require postDoc or higher.
I've been wagecucking in a trade-job in the meantime. Jesus christ these people are so normie and oblivious. I kid you not... "if inflation is going down, why haven't prices gone down as well?". Fuckin hell. I miss the times when I worked in the academia and could spend hours working completely alone.

I know how to code. I am proficient in Python and many of its libraries. Many different projects I have worked on, ranging from machine learning and deep learning to computer vision. I also have basics in web programming. And since I'm an engineer, I of course have MATLAB, Labview, and Simulink. I should maybe pick up Javascript so I can finally get a goddamn job.
Supposedly a "strong economy" and a "strong job market" yet the companies keep reposting the same jobs for months on end and they barely respond. I should have just become a tradesman. Almost as well paid (actually more since you don't waste 5y on uni) and 100% job security. But my boomer parents convinced me to go to uni and be a proper engineer. Yeah, fuckin good one

MATLAB is great. Simple and effective. It's not suited for advanced stuff. And thanks to its many plugins, there's actually a lot of stuff that can be dumbed down. Plus it has Simulink. Some companies like the software. I think Volvo uses Matlab quite a lot

            Cuck, you got scammed

Mechanical engineering is great for industrial manufacturing including for aerospace.
Systems engineering is big picture and still useful for engineering team management.
Still electrical, electronic, and computer have major overlaps, but I'd place them all in GOAT or good.
