Edginess aside, what are your people’s thoughts on this album? I have always thought that it was heartwarmingly sincere/honest and generally comforting on a genuine level thats cool to hate on these days

Possibly “We never change” but I wouldn’t die on that hill. All of them are just kinda comfy and pleasant, y’know? I don’t like “Everything’s not lost” tho, probably the most mediocre and forced thing on it imo

Honestly I view it as an overlooked gem of the early 2000's. I know Yellow was huge but the whole package is wonderful. It feels so honest and intimate. A great listen for sure

Its almost as if they captured unmolested youth and innocence via a rock album. Very few people I know would even entertain the idea of appreciating it which pains me in some strange way but this is just the way it is anymore

saw docu about them and it's crazy that lineup was set from the start, no changes

It's broadly agreed it's Y2K kino afaik, people just wanted a new U2 to hate on at the time
Plus Coldplay have gotten so shit and poptimist the past decade those same people are only now starting to realise how good their early stuff was by comparison

It cripples my soul to think of what they would have accomplished if they kept true to their souls after AROBTTH. I don’t mind X&Y, and I thought Everyday Life was an interesting specimen but they have tragically lowered their average song value with so much vacuous pop filler over the years. I give credit where I believe credit is due, Chris does what he can record-to-record and has rather exemplary moments scattered here and there in his own right, but as a unit, they simply aren’t what they were and never will be again. SAD!

The guitars on the opening track is probably the best an acoustic guitar have ever sounded on a pop album. And it's somewhat comforting to hear "we live in a beautiful world" when everything is crumbling to shit

If any other band released Viva La Vida as it were it would be a very highly regarded album

I see this sentiment alot on the internet and have to agree. For being pop chart jockeys, Viva La Vida would be pretty unprecedented for most other mainstream acts and the song itself is unforgettable
