Crowd density is a glorious subject and one of my favorite things to look into. Basically, humans both do and don't take up lots of space, and because of how our brains work, we can interpret exponentially bigger crowds as being identical in size.

There are only enough stadiums in the world to fit give or take 30,000,000 people at once, literally less than half of one percent of the population. And yet, looking at a crowded sporting event you get the sense it's a sea of people. Likewise, you could stuff every human on Earth into a single tiny county in rural Ohio with enough room to move their arms, completely destroying all arguments of overpopulation or resource scarcity.

If we believe OP is fudging the numbers, since honestly it's impossible to truly affirm anything regarding total demographic data, I think it shows that humans want to always perceive the world as larger than it really is. Paradoxically, we live isolated atomized lives, only going to so many spots and interacting with so many people. Therefore, the reading holds up, it's not solipsism if "small world, huh?" is a common idiom.

I recognized every person at my high school.

Yeah probably. They somehow managed to work out how much of the world had the covid vaccine though. There's elections and the census too that could give a rough estimation globally

It’s never been about overpopulation or resource scarcity, it’s about overconsumption and exceeding planetary limits:

i've always thought this. there's no way there's that many people. some of the music i listen to barely gets 10k views, and real people made it and listen to it, how many real people actually exist?
okay so if there are billions of humans, how many of them are actually conscious and able to think out of the box and hold thoughts, opinions and life decisions on their own?
...it just seems weird to me that mostly everyone follows what society tells them to do and don't stop and do something else. are they just subconscious apparitions?
