U series Intel CPUs have pretty good battery life.

Gaming laptops don't have low wattage CPUs though,
And even the U series Intel chips as of now aren't as efficient as AMD's chips

Yeah, but they aren't that far behind.

Pick one or just buy a Steamdeck and a Chromebook instead

There's no reason gaming laptop running on eGPU can't have decent battery life. Just clock/volt everything down.

It's just that only rarely they put a competent team on the design, sometimes it's bottom barrel pajeets. One year the Zephyrus G14 has 10 hours battery life, next year it has 2 hours.

Yes. The issue with windows is that it can't switch between battery plans conveniently, only between battery/AC during ONE plan. Install a third party app that switches between plans as your power source changes, and make two different plans: max performance and max battery saving.

I think mine lasts around 3-4 hours coding with the Nvidia GPU off and the screen one or two notches below max brightness at 60hz.
There's only so much you can do, it's not optimized for battery life but what it has is enough for me.

Don’t get the Intel version, turn on hybrid mode to you use iGPU. Get Lenovo Legion Toolkit and deactivate dGPU because schwindows thinks microshat world does indeed need to use a dGPU. In the toolkit you can also down clock your AMD CPU because once again the system thinks you really need that fucking 4ghz boost to open a chrome tab 0.0000001 nanosecond faster. This shit is done automatically but your refresh rate should be 60.

Yes. You can mount the laptop to a Deep Cycle Lead Acid Battery. Depending on your stock battery's voltage, you may need to put it in series with a 6V or another 12V. Once your batteries are set up, go ahead and do the wiring. If your laptop needs a control board in the battery to function, you can extract the PCB from the stock battery. You should be able to get quite a bit of juice out of your laptop now, the only downside being that it weighs 60lbs now.

It's actually about as close as to an older thinkpad one can get outside of purchasing a framework. Replacable bits that have multiple options, extra drives and lacking in any gamer aesthetic. It's just a black, non-descript slab. No stupid LEDs or extra fans or screens. No stupid gamer branding with reflective material.

You can buy a larger battery. There are guides online but you basically just pop it open and replace the old one. I replaced my 2021 model's and I get about 4-6 hours.

I have a similar one (Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3) and I think it's a good laptop. Good Linux support, compared to other cheap brands.
Sadly, it has modern shit like Intel ((boot guard)) which make porting Coreboot or Libreboot to them practically impossible. I like that they look simple. Mine only has a white static/breathing keyboard backlight which is just good enough for me. Also an ethernet port, which is crazy rare in modern laptops.

I can get 5hr on the 5800h / 3060 model if I don't use the gpu at all, this is really not the laptop to get if you need to work without power for extended periods

Just unplug the battery when not using it (wired power connection at home etc.) to prolong it's lifespan
These Legions have easy acces to battery plugin/socket
