Does anybody else compulsively reinstall their OS? How do I stop doing this?

Install games/programs on another partition bro. Symlink appdata folders you need. Make batch script to create symlink. All good.

I usually reinstall Windows annually and Arch semi-annually, just for drift-out-of-state reasons. I have notes and scripts that make it a sub-hour process from deciding to do it to being comfy again.

What do these consist of for reinstalling windows, out of curiosity? Want to reinstall windows but I keep dreading reinstalling the appropriate drivers and forgetting programs I use regularly.

On the contrary, Windows needs to be regularly reinstalled.

I've reinstalled 3 times in the past month...
I keep 2 windows installs going at all times, with an empty 3rd OS partition just in case.
Sometimes I think about installing openSUSE on one of them because the chameleon is funny.

      here
      I wanna ask..
How viable is keeping offline installers for Linux? Could I reasonably keep the .debs or .rpms for drivers and software I want downloaded by the package manager and use them to install without having to download it all again after I reinstall my OS? Or would this just kill me with dependency problems?
It's really the main thing that keeps me using windows. I have all my drivers, libraries, and software neatly packed away on my backup partition so I can reinstall without internet... Just in case.

You can download an entire mirror.
        https://www.gnu.org/server/mirror.html
        https://www.debian.org/mirror/ftpmirror

My desktop is still using the same install from my laptop in 2012.

The better way would be to script installing the repos/packages you want (version numbers do not matter), and maybe removing those you don't while you are at it. non-enterprise Windows users do something kind of similar through 3rd party tools like ninite.

i used to, but not anymore since I moved to debian
last time i did it was a few days ago, but with backups, so it doesn't count, even root was backed up, I switched my filesystem from xfs to ext4. I was really into trying fileystems even though I know I will not notice any difference (except for btrfs which sucks)

so yeah not anymore from 0, last time I did it from 0 was 2 years ago.

now, VMs? I am literally installing windows 7 right now. I am a VM junky
i also have to mention I don't have any programming knowledge nor do I care about programming. I just do shit like this

my debian installs were also insanely long-lasting
      same for the devuan ones

I don't like VM's, I wanna touch my hardware more directly.

Why? Reinstalling the OS on a regular basis is a good thing.

What's your recommended Schizo tier VPN?
I don't trust the Gubment, the Glowies or the VPN israelites, but I'd choose the lesser of the evils I guess

It's only a problem for OSs that don't provide whole-system configuration like NixOS. The state machine model ends up accruing cruft that needs to be cleaned up or it'll break something, so a reinstall feels like the right option.

Once every few months. Yes. And also change all of my passwords.

    >How do I stop doing this?
Why would you? It's a best opsec practice.
