Do you wash your hands with soap and hot water after each time you touch raw meat, or is a quick rinse sufficient?

    i just rinse it
if every single chicken breast had salmonella i would be dead by now, so i understand the fact that i'm just gambling
the risk is definitely overstated, more people get salmonella from raw flour than chicken if i'm remembering correctly

What a coincidence, I just finished throwing some chicken breast in the marination tub and came here to ask what percent of chicken has salmonella. I did a quick Google search and the answers I found ranged from 5% to 99%, which doesn't help.
I wash my hands with water until I can barely feel the chicken slime, then I pour rubbing alcohol on them and rub my hands together like a garden gnome, then I wash with water again. If I'm handling beef I just wash with water.

Also scrolling down I realize this is the most retarded thread I've ever seen on LULZ (I rarely browse this board).

Gonna be real fucking honest, I probably don't wash my hands enough while cooking but I havent gotten sick so far so I'm guessing its enough?

I properly wash my hands after handling raw chicken (most of the time), like after the initial cutting - thats pretty much it

beef is a quick sani rinse, chicken and pork is soap and water

if i'm full on groping the chicken breast and really putting my hands on it, i'll do a full wash. however, if im just moving it or briefly touching it i'll do a quick rinse

Hand wash + clean and disinfect every surface, no matter what I'm cooking. If you've ever worked in a kitchen, you know why this is important.

        >The rates of microbial contamination of retail meats with E. coli in this study ranged from 39% for chicken samples to 12% for turkey samples.

        >The reported prevalence of Salmonella in retail meats varies widely in different countries. Salmonella is found less frequently in retail meats in developed countries, although as much as 36% of poultry meat samples were contaminated in a recent study in Belgium (35) and 43% of poultry meat samples were contaminated in a previous study in the United States (4). The rates of Salmonella contamination in pork and beef appear to be much lower, ranging from 0.8 to 10.4% in the United States (10, 32). The difference could be due in part to the types of samples analyzed (whole birds versus steaks; fresh versus frozen). The results of this study indicate that the rates of Salmonella contamination in retail meat samples were low, ranging from 1.9% for beef samples to 4.2% for chicken samples.
