Do you ever regret NOT buying a car?

As the subject reads. What car do you regret missing out on?

I'm trying to decide on lightly used m240i. I have the money and income to afford it, easily. I don't NEED the car though, it's a craving. I'm not so good with a wrench that I could do more than change the oil.

Will I regret it?

I envy you Americans sometimes, that would be listed for at least 2-3 times more in Australia with worse condition.

Why does Scotty always seem to shit on BMW? He loves Toyota and loves the new Supra, which has the same engine. I think he just does it for the "everyman" credibility... so his viewers can say "see! I'm smarter than the butthole BMW owner because eceleb mechanic guy said so!"

Scotty might be genuinely one of the most moronic YouTubers I've ever seen. He'll say a car BRAND is total garbage and showcase it by showing some beater car and blame the manufacturer instead of the slob pig who didn't take care of it at all.

Really cheap FC Turbo II in pretty good shape
Passed on some FDs because I was trying to get a more reliable daily, not a less reliable one
Missed out on a whole bunch of cheap Miatas with hardtops including some track prepped ones that would've saved me some time and money
Was looking at 996 Turbos around when covid first hit, but buying a 911 when I was out of work seemed like a terrible idea

      >shoulda gotten a final year evo when they were just collecting dust on the lot
I remember seeing one still on a lot near me when I was shopping around. Didn't even go check it out because it was still more than I wanted to spend, but in hindsight, I probably could've talked them down enough to make it work.

Pretty much the same situation here. I've got a bunch of hobbies and interests that a truck would really facilitate, and I came close to buying one when the market was at rock bottom in early '21. I decided to put it off until I really needed it instead, and now that I do I'm stuck paying the same price for a 3 year old 50k mile truck that I would've for a brand new one a year and a half ago.

    >As the subject reads. What car do you regret missing out on?

1999 LS400. I found this car on cars.com two years ago and I had the money for it. This was right when the LS400 meme was taking off and they were starting to go up in value. Guy was in the middle of Kansas, my dad and I drove out there together in case I bought the car

    >99 LS400
    >purple/mauve color
    >109k miles
    >2nd owner, guy bought it from Oregon drove back to middle of Kansas
    >Timing belt not done, but otherwise good shape
    >asking $5000
    >passenger mirror control not working, only thing broke on the car
    >no scratches or serious imperfections
    >got him down to $4500
    >dad tried to get me to israelite him down to $4250
    >he wouldn't budge

So we drove home. I changed my mind and called the guy the next day but he said he changed his mind and that his wife wants to keep it as a daily driver. Now I can't find any similar quality LS400s for less than $7k or $8k. I'll probably never own a decent one at this rate.

I wish I would've purchased it, because even if I didn't like it, I could've sold it a year or two later and made money

Before Covid, I didn’t get an NC2 Miata, I got a 2000 xterra 4x4 because I didn’t want to spend over 8k. I ended up paying 2k for the xterra and have put in at least 6k on maintenance for the xterra. It also has 200k miles so I’m pretty much never going to see more than $3k if I decide to sell

Regret is a strong word but I found the exact car I wanted last year on carvana and vroom and opted to just go to a local dealer instead. I got an es350 instead of an is300. Again I wouldn't say regret, the es is great but for one, the is looks nicer and 2 I hate dealers and I want to be a part of the collapse of their industry. I'm not sure if you can trust carvana, maybe they industry sucks too, but my God wouldn't it be great if you can just order a car, get your own loan and have it delivered without having to talk to a scum bag salesman? It's such a racket. There is absolutely no reason why I'd you but a new car Toyota can't just deliver it to you. Why do I have to go to a dealer and get upcharged? If car companies sold direct and if they charged you the full shipping cost+ more to make a profit, the car would still be much cheaper than the mark up that dealers put. We have to cut out these swindling middle men. It's really one of the most useless and evil rackets in the world. Same with their finance department. They always lie to you about the rate. They can just claim that your credit gets you 4% but in reality it's 2 and they are just stealing 2% from you and this is somehow legal.

So my es is nice and maybe the is would have sucked but I am still open to carvana and I want them to be successful. Someday maybe I'll use them.

Totally agree that dealers are scumbag middlemen that need to go. Searching carvana for comps to the model I'm looking at though and it seems everything is similarly priced.

tbh it's really just a symptom because I don't have my sportbike and it's now having a compression issue kek.

I know it's a pain in the ass when you have the funds now. But I'm taking the copium now and waiting another year for the market to hopefully balance itself out. Where I live, I'm already seeing price reductions being added online, which means those dealerfrickers are bleeding. Let them bleed more and go buy a car in 6mo-1year, their auto loan bullshit is why the market is so fricked.

I don't think the market will see much of a lowering in prices however higher interest rates means that buyers have less money to spend, so that does plateau prices temporarily, at least that's what I see in the housing market. I suspect with cars it's not as dramatic because a higher interest rate is maybe only $500-$2000 more depending on the principle.

I might wait on this one a week or two longer and low ball them ~4k to 5k under asking price and see if they bite. They'll push back with maybe 2 to 3k under asking price... the same old bullshit
