dinosaur jr have (had?) a reputation for being very loud live, have any of you been to a concert of theirs and if so was it as loud as they say?
on the subject of playing loud, isn't that a hearing loss risk? even with earplugs it must be insanely loud to be playing right by the speakers
The loudest band I've seen was The John Spencer Blues Explosion. It hurt. Half the crowd bailed.
I hope you were wearing earplugs then. how was the band otherwise?
They were awesome.
Just take some foam earplugs and keep them in your pocket dumbass. If it gets too loud, put em on.
what happened to dinosaur sr
Died from hearing loss
literally no one has ever died from that, you're lying
You've never heard of the guy that got hit by a car because he didn't hear someone shout "look out"?
>on the subject of playing loud, isn't that a hearing loss risk?
wow you're pretty smart
I saw Dinosaur Jr (opening for Built to Spill) in 2009 and MBV in 2013. Both without earplugs. Still have perfect hearing
I'm jealous were they good live? both bands I mean
Both were incredible shows. I hope you get a chance to see them someday anon
i saw them live at an outdoor festival, it wasn't loud at all lol.
Yes, I saw them 2ish months ago and they were loud as fuck. Loudest band i've ever seen and I've seen Slayer
just ear shatteringly loud. the first time in my life i've been to a concert and legitimately thought i was doing irreparable damage by staying
amazing show, i actually wore the shirt i bought today
Were you using earplugs?
no, because i've never felt i needed them in all the concerts i've been to so i didn't think i would here either but yeah, i wish i brought some just because you can't hear anything when it's that loud. guitars that loud just ring together and sound like ringing and noise, you can't hear individual notes
>even with earplugs it must be insanely loud to be playing right by the speakers
probably only one of those speakers is actually on, the rest are dummy cabs meant to look cool
the amp is mic'd to the PA and that's what you're hearing mostly
>-he rest are dummy cabs meant to look cool
you don't understand, the sheer autism of this man
you really think he has 8 marshall cabs all connected with the amps set to 10?
the FOH guy would kill him and make him turn them off. this isn't the 70s anymore, you just need to mic one cab to the PA and have it for stage volume to monitor
>you really think he has 8 marshall cabs all connected with the amps set to 10?
yes
Somewhere in an interview J said he likes to stand in front of his cabs and feel all the sheer force of the air vibrations being produced, not sure if he meant it during shows or just at home but it wouldn't surprise me
I was joking, there is gear interview on Gear magazine i think (youtube) where he talks about how while he likes to use the THREE full stacks he only turns them ''so loud, cause there is a moment where they only get so much volume and then they start only getting more distorted not more loud'' and shows how he most of the time turns them only to 6 or something
And how his tech is a dead head guy from the 70's, old as shit that like to use PA the old way that the stones and shit used, to get as much of the vocals out and use the amp sound as much as possible
Went to one of their shows, they are mindblowingly loud.
Yeah it's true, J's guitar sound is like sandpaper, fucking destroyed my hearing for a week when I was a dumb 19 year old seeing them with no plugs
Ear-bleeding country
