The coup attempt escalated things and totally backfired. What a meme.
Pro-tip to any would-be usurpers: if they start protesting in the streets, fricking machine gun them all to death as soon as you can. Fricking drop thermobaric bombs on them if you have to. If you let them march, they will march on you.
>practically no one expected it
Yeah because most people were either idiots or because the Soviets were doing their damnedest to withold how bad things were. Their economy was in shambles, the afghan war had ruined them economically and militarily, and let's not forget Chernobyl.
no one in the west expected it either moron. the fricking cia didn't predict it. there was like one political scientist/kremlinologist in the west who predicted it. its not because people were idiots
>let's not forget Chernobyl.
was this really a big domestic issue in the Soviet Union?
or was it just western propaganda to seek to make them look inferior and incompetent?

it massively eroded trust in the government since they tried to cover it up hard but due to the fact its next to impossible to cover it up on the scale meant they were forced to admit it, sure the clean up was a massive success on their part but the fact they even attempted to keep it a secret despite the risk ruined any good will

It would still likely be around if the coup didn't happen at all.
>what are Tajikistani civil war, Abkhazia war, Chechen wars, Transnistria war, South Ossetia war, Nagorno-Karabakh wars, Russo-Georgian war, Donbass war, Russo-Ukrainian war
Lmao you fricking moron, do you consider the Frankish-Alemannian war a Roman civil war because it was fought by Western Roman successor states? Might as well call the Franco-Prussian war a Frankish civil war
all of those moronic conflicts are happened due to landgrabs, they are not internal political struggle about continuation of soviets like soviet coup attempt
It was only unexpected because the Soviets were really good at hiding their actual condition from the rest of the world.
This is why it's amusing that commies tell you you're brainwashed by American propaganda if you tell them about bread lines or that used cars costed more than new. There's NO American propaganda from the day that could tell you about these little things. In fact, you have things like that tiny little CIA blurb that the Soviets may eat more calories which every goddamn commie regurgitates.
>unexpected
It was coming for almost a decade.
practically no one expected it at the time mongoloid it was only inevitable in hindsight

t. Kremlin advisor
didn't work for Ceausescu
he got couped
sounds like a path to causing said civil war

Um, no.
Mao knew is would happen the moment Krushit took power and he was correct in Krushit's revisionism laying the groundwork for collapse
No. It was quite stable before Gorbachev.
It would still likely be around if the coup didn't happen at all.
It was coming for 69 years, it's a miracle they held on so long.
>coming for 69 years
noice
moronic constitutions be like that, glad China learned from it and amended all the moronic shit out
what would soviet civil war look like? imagine the amount of factions.
Thank God that never happened. We would have been forced to foot the bill for PR.

What do you think the Russia/Ukraine war is, anon?
*dies in the most epic, obvious of ways*
>Rome lasts over a thousand years
>USSR didn't even make it to 100 years old
What compelled you to save and post such a shitty map?
Roman supremacy lasts damn near 2000 years until a fat German fricks it all up again.
heh
USSR ending in totalen krieg style civil war would have been absolutely kino
Imagine the nuclear terrorism.
It might still end that way, it's just on a delayed fuse.
*dies form the same methods used to bring it to life in the first place.
The other republics (especially Russia) should have done like Belarus and kept the planned economy instead of letting oligarchs rape their countries
Truly the Third Rome
