They never really had much of a chance but after midway there is no way that I could see them holding out.

As other itt have said, they lost as soon as they started. The resources and industry of the two sides was simply two lopsided for a total war scenario like WWII. While Midway was indeed the turning point that destroyed the Japanese Navy as an effective fighting force, had Japan won Midway, there merely would have been another midway a few months later, or a few months after that.

they lost it as soon as they attacked pearl harbour. Once the US diverted all its attention to raping Japan, Japan was inevitably going to be raped.
that being said, losing four whole fleet carriers in about 48 hours was indeed the first major crippling blow.
Also important to remember that the whole point of the midway battle for the japs was to regain Midway island, which they never did. They also lost Guadalcanal in the same year

People handwaving any actual military action and logistics by just saying "Muh american industry" "muh pearl harbor war already over" are pop-history dipshits that don't know anything. Yes OP, Japan did lose at Midway, and if it wasn't for a couple instances of dumb luck the Japanese could've sunk our carriers instead. We would've built more, but it would have dragged on the pacific theater much longer and all sorts of stupid shit could have happened in that time, like Japan obtaining more oil and resources.

America was destined to win. In a sense it didn’t matter in the end what happened at midway.

Delaying an invasion of the home islands long enough to build a nuke and get a negotiated peace

Closing out China, winning Midway and capture the islands up to Hawaii, stabilize Burma and try for an invasion of Australia. If this happens all before about the middle of 1944 then Japan could of forced a negotiated peace. The chances? Almost zero. And whos to stop America from just waiting to develop the nuke and sneak attack Japan a couple months later lol.

No one is destined to win a war. All the ships and planes in the world are useless without the will to fight and people who know how to use them property.
Japan had little chance because they badly misjudged what the American reaction would be to a direct attack, but as others have said, things could have unfolded in such a way that they would've had room to negotiate if they got really really lucky, or the US was incompetent.

japan was also backwards in naval tech, tactics and training in many ways and it contributed to their defeat at Midway

They lost the war when FDR sanctioned them.

The US would outproduce Japan eventually anyway. Japan's victory depended on an Axis victory in Europe tying up the US long enough for a ceasefire or until atomic weapons become a thing.

Oh yeah they'd totally invade Midway and then use that as a launching platform to invade the rest of Hawaii which would totally work out for them despite already being bogged down in China, Burma, Philippines, Indonesia etc. Totally would go after California next.

Midway was bad, but coral sea was the real end of the Japanese navy.
