You should really switch to a more proper distro like LARBS or Arch/Artix.

Funny thing is that 99% of "distros" are worse than larps. I think Linux only has 5 real distros
debian, redhat, gentoo, arch, and softly nix

Also, perhaps alpine may become more relevant in the future as computers get more and more bloated. But unless there are only marginal CPU hardware improvements in the next 20 years, I wouldn't hold my breath.

It is a conundrum. Fedora is both desirable for its corporate backing, and suspect as well. A lot of the innovation in the loonix desktop goes on around Fedora, so why not just use Fedora one might say.

It took them 10 years to figure out that Python probably isn't the best choice for a package manager.

          Anonymous

The best package manager for any operating system (Zypper) is already written in C++

          https://github.com/openSUSE/zypper

            Anonymous

zypper sucks ass though, it's slow as shit. plus you can't even use it all the time anyways because the repos are shit too so you gotta go hunt the web for binaries like a wintoddler and install through yast, or use flatpaks or snaps.

gentoo portage and arch pacman both blow it out of the water. in both the package manager itself and the repos. i've heard xbps from void is pretty good too but i've never tried it

You can download the snap and flatpak utilities. The packages themselves are not snap or flatpak but you can install those utilities if you choose. I don't see how that's abstract.

            >that's literally every package manager, nothing special
yum, apt, pacman all have horrible commands with poor documentation and are too similar to each other.

You seriously haven't said anything substantive about suse yet. Vague ramblings about how you don't like the default repository.

yes that's what i said. the default repo is crap so you gotta cope by adding more, like snaps and flatpaks
            >yum, apt, pacman all have horrible commands with poor documentation and are too similar to each other.
never tried yum but apt and pacman are dead simple and the documentation is great. ever heard of the arch wiki? manpages?
            >You seriously haven't said anything substantive about suse yet
i literally told you why the package management is trash. go read up about it here

zypper sucks ass though, it's slow as shit. plus you can't even use it all the time anyways because the repos are shit too so you gotta go hunt the web for binaries like a wintoddler and install through yast, or use flatpaks or snaps.

. i use tumbleweed btw, it works well but the package management is pretty much the worst thing about it. very far from being the best on linux.

more like creator of linux continues distro hopping because all distros are complete garbage and none of them ever suit his needs.

      Anonymous

You know it's quite strange that he never felt the need to endorse or even create his own distro. Must it not have been weird for him as a young man to see Red Hat grow to a highly profitable company all based around his own work?

If Linus endorsed a distro, I reckon 80% of users would hop to it within the first week. He'd clean up many commercial contracts too. Why hasn't he done this? He knows who all of the worthwhile linux contributors are, he can lure them to work on his enterprise. In fact he should do it tomorrow. Even if he were to forget how to program, his name alone is a good enough endorsement. Just get the guy a case of red bulls, lock him in a cabin and in two weeks he'll have something better than Ubuntu.

Why can't he get as pissed off with the Linux Desktop Experience as he did with Bitkeeper?

        Anonymous

Because he knows what a clusterfrick it is to create an actual distro and he wants nothing to do with it. He's involved in enough drama as it is.
