The last time even one person has thoroughly grokked a codebase was in the early 1990s. We have been on cruise control ever since. The likelihood that a severe software bug will result in the deaths of billions of people within the next 30 years is probably about 90%.

I don't think Apple was like this at all when Steve Jobs was still in charge. He would fire people over something as small as an icon being 1px off alignment.
