GuestFor windows 10 user it’s something redundant and none asked for it. I have invested X amount of time on my system making it look exactly how I want and now I have to start over.
That’s why I took the LTSC pill and never looked back since.

Holy woke af. In the history of Microsoft nobody has asked them for a new OS, specially since Windows 8.

GuestWindows is a legit clusterfuck for sysadmins. It’s only easy on home PCs where the nuclear option is always available.

GuestI believe it. I have no experience with it as a sysadmin, but nuking is always my go to option as a user.

GuestI don’t need experience to extrapolate how it would apply there. Windows is like a house of cards. It’s fine as long as you don’t touch it. But what’s the point of that?

GuestHot Takes like this are how I know LULZ is jobless.
In Corporate IT, nuke from orbit and re-image is the order of the day. I put in a policy for my Helpdesk Slaves that if they spend more than 60 minutes attempting to resolve an issue, the solution is to re-image (WDS, MDT, and Ansible on prem and Intune + Ansible over VPN for off-site). It takes around 15 minutes on our LAN to fully 100% redeploy and even remotely the user is up and running in 30 minutes, even if everything will take a few hours to fully redeploy on shitty connections.
In a well functioning Corporate Environment all PCs are cattle.

windows 11 features are coming to look like freaking vaporware. There’s not a single reason to update from w10. On the contrary it gives users more reasons to upgrade to linux.-

Incorrect. MDL, Nsane, etc. are going bananas for it, and have huge normie populations.-
September 30, 2021 at 1:30 pm #117091

GuestThose aren’t normies — I mean real normies. The type who were confused as to why they even needed an "upgrade" to 10 in the first place, let alone 11, and would be perfectly content with Vista or 7 if it were possible. To the average normie Windows peaked a decade ago, and they see zero reason for these new versions and upgrades. Enough sȯyboy scrotes scream about "security patches" that normies go along with it because they understand virus = bad.

GuestThere’s nothing to be interested into. From what they’ve shown W11 is W10, with none of the things that they’ve been promising for W10 and a remarkably worse Start menu.
It’s been 6 years since 10 came out. It’s twice the time it usually took to get a new version of Windows with the exception of the 6 years between XP and Vista, and it doesn’t even show at freaking all. -

Yeah sis, people going to go racing out for new hardware that is in mass shortage right now for a new OS that offers literally nothing, if anything is a downgrade.

GuestThat’s irrelevant at this point. The decision to make the switch was made and it’s not going to be unmade. Yet here we are, seven years after Windows 10 was first shown publically, on the verge of Windows 11 being released and they STILL haven’t finished moving features from the old Control Panel to the Settings app. It’s truly embarrassing for a company of Microsoft’s size and resources. I know that the Windows team is primarily low cost, low IQ shitskins at this point, but you’d think that even a team of monkeys could manage to handle that if given seven years to work on it. And it’s certainly more than seven years in real terms, since they were developing Windows 10 long before they showed it to people.

GuestI’m upgrading my rig because I’m heavy on playing games. I’d rather not fiddle with getting Linux to work for a lot of things, from various hentai games to big steam stuff.
Been there, done that, it was a pain in the ass. I also work up to 12 hours a day some days so I don’t have time to mess around on Linux constantly. I already have a job. I just want something I can use to unwind easy.
I HATE windows 10 and 11, but those are my only choices if I want better RAM than the 16GB DDR3 799Mhz I’m capped at.
Linux is good if you have a lot of free time. Sort of like a woman.-

Steam shows Linux usage is barely 1% of the entire population of Steam, and for Japs its even lower – anything they do is on Windows because it just works. They don’t want to fiddle around with compatibilities to make their e-boi hentai games work.
Wait, why am I even giving out a (you)? Enjoy the freebie I guess. Lord knows you need the attention.Unfortunate to hear. I was worried about that. If they made the touch input better to the point it’s useful for more than note taking with the stylus than the surface pro would be an outstanding machine.
That is assuming they haven’t made touch input better while simultaneously making mouse and keyboard input worse, that’d be ass.-

The whole underlying operating is the same and has only been incremented. Why can’t we have the windows 7 look and feel. Why? Because marketers that why. They have to convince you to buy the same shit over and over again, even when it keeps getting progressively worse. Sure the underlying stuff might get optimized, but then you have entirely new settings menus tacked on because they can’t update control panel. Did you want ads in you OS. No, Well too freaking bad. How about leaking your data? How about being the most vulnerable OS? There just isn’t enough tangible value added to make getting it worth it.

MS is into web services for enterprise. Not home computing anymore.
At this point a freaking chromebook gives you a more cohesive experience than windows.
Sadly that’s the current world. Domestic users can use a smartphone or tablet for daily work/play now.
Linux is a more traditional desktop OS but the support from big software devs just isn’t there. MacOS seems to be a good middle ground between windows and linux (although newer macos versions seem to be getting shit on too). There’s no hype for operating systems anymore. No hype for iOS, no hype for Android, not for linux, not for macOS and certainly not for windows.

Guesti have no idea, but found an article with garden gnomegle:
BitLocker will be enabled by default on all Windows 11 PCs. Once the drive is encrypted with BitLocker, Windows asks where you’d like to back up the encryption key. The key reduces the odds of the data being tampered with, should your laptop get stolen or lost. It’s stored inside of the firmware TPM in the CPU, or in a discrete TPM 2.0 module, where it will be called upon to unseal the drive during the login process.

Guest>actually its really inconvenient what if filesystem corruption occurs out of nowhere and decryption fails even if i have the right key or if i have to switch to linux (im afraid of losing my precious data)
Encryption doesn’t make that much of a difference because it works on a different level than the file system. The disk is encrypted and the filesystem is more or less inside a container. Corruption can also occur on unencrypted drives, if you’re afraid to lose your data you need a backup. There’s no way around this, buy a backup drive, make a cold backup and when you’re not updating or the restoring the backup, disconnect the drive and put it in a HDD crate away from your computer.
Linux handles bitlocker encrypted drives just fine, there’s dislocker. -

Then why the fuck are you relying on what I assume is NTFS? Either your data is precious enough to bestored on a machine with ECC memory and a decent filesystem like ZFS or it is simply not worth worrying about.

Even if you don’t want to upgrade now, by 2025, you WILL use it. The number of people looking for workarounds in 4 years will be infinitesimally small. -

GuestIsn’t W11 just a standard feature update of W10 but they’re labeling it a new OS version because MacOS finally moved beyond 10 and they want to keep pace?
Sounds scrotebrained but woke af on xbox’s overall scrotebrained naming scheme and MS not wanting to call the 360 "xbox 2" vs "playstation 3", it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest -

Because they are about to launch yet another incomplete operating system that also breaks existing functionality.
Offline mapped network drives make the OS unusable, they bonked this a few update ago in 10 but only when navigating to This PC, in 11 opening file explorer or the Open/Save As dialog will hard freeze for as long as it takes to timeout (over two minutes usually), disk I/O brickwalls and most programs break.
Network locations are completely broken, files don’t actually get written to the file share, they instead go into the mount point in localappdata or wherever (shit that was supposed to go to the share instead filled up my C: drive).
The new UI elements have delay, opening the context menu is delayed, taskbar system icon hover popups are bonked, I’ve been forced to use one hand for the past week and every time I mouse past the clock to click the show desktop button shit like in the webm happens.
You are forced to use icons instead of labels, the window preview hover will disappear when you receive notifications, if anything steals focus like a installer finishing or a messaging client then it will also disappear meaning you have to hover and wait for that shit to popup again.
You still cannot drag and drop icons into programs in the taskbar.
Randomly once per session the system will stutter for a second causing audio to slow down and stretch.-

GuestForgot to mention that the start menu and calendar/notifications sometimes don’t open, I’ve had a delay of up to 20 minutes where it will suddenly just popup in front of a game.
The network location problem was that files were being copied into %APPDATA%MicrosoftWindowsNetwork Shortcutsstorage, this is supposed to be a shortcut to the share but for some reason it was writing to the C: drive instead. -

Literally in your freaking highlight. Holy shit how can one be so scrotebrained?Vaccines don’t have to be 100% effective, nor are they ever. In fact, normal Flu shots are far less effective than the Covid vaccine due to the sheer amount of flu variants, public health officials just make an educated guess as to which flu will be most common this year, yet we still get ’em, because to be worth it, they only have to be better than not getting a shot at all, which they are and which the covid shot, likewise, is, as is stated in the very same article, in the same sentence you highlighted.

GuestSince Windows 10 is a rolling distro it makes no sense to make releases anymore. That and more MSFT bullshit with DRM and being against user with TPM and other crap. I’m happy that since 2008 I’m using Ubuntu instead. Do you think updates in Windows 11 will still require reboots? Honestly, I think that they just need to sell another OS so they will sell the same shit a bit modified and call it a day.

No. Are you underage? The "unified ecosystem" is the windows store, which came with windows 8. Windows 8 was on phones, tablets and PCs. Windows 10, when it came out, had minor changes compared to windows 8.1By your logic, you could say it started development at any arbitrary point in DOS-windows history
Also porn of 16 yos in EU is very illegal.

GuestWindows became a finished project as a general desktop in 10 the only thing that’s left is to try and make it match the security potential of a Linux desktop out of the box.
Before some idiots say the Linux desktop is insecure I will state that if you don’t take the security steps yourself to secure it then yes, installing a bunch of programs on Linux means one vulnerability in any of it takes your entire user account. If you do things like have a whonix setup, general browsing vm setup, packet filtering router VM that is local to the current machine only and use the selinux sandbox program to sandbox the programs while also spawning them as a user not your main one you the up with a system windows/Mac had no comparison to.

GuestI’m extremely petty and don’t care about the technical ins and outs of it. I just hate that it looks like freaking MacOS. If I wanted a Mac, I’d buy a Mac. I hate this trend of streamlining UI to look like it belongs on a tablet or mobile phone. People hated Windows 8 because of this, why are they trying borderline the same shit? Just give us what we had in 7 and 10.
