GuestFrench contribution on D-Day
>Only a few French infantry were involved in the Allied landing operations on June 6, 1944. There were 209- 177 commandos and 32 airborne troopers.[36] Additional personnel include a hundred French air force fighter and bomber pilots and hundreds of sailors from the French navy.[36]details of what they each did:

GuestParis was not an important target. Americans were working hard to chase after the Germans so that they wouldn’t be able to retreat and reform their defenses in the East. And then de Gaulle demanded that his forces should have the honor to march into Paris instead of making useful contributions. And he somehow got what he wanted, as always.

GuestFree France and the concept of a French Resistance is for the most part one giant LARP they came up with after the liberation of their country by Commonwealth and US forces.
Of course after the krauts got their shit wrecked they were all tripping over themselves to pretend they were part of resistance movements and cells. Hell, even those that were involved in those cells mostly just provided information. At least the partisans in eastern europe actually DID shit.-

The shit they mostly did was steal food from peasants.
In Western Europe you knew that for every German you killed they would kill 10 French civilians in retaliation. You’d have to be an idiot (or a communist) to fight under such circumstances.-

So they wouldn’t have had a problem with causing trouble in a town and having the Germans roll up and execute a bunch of civilians since it furthered their cause in the long run.-

They didn’t defend their country, they either surrendered, ran towards the Urals or ran to the woods. The ones that ran to the woods then spent the war terrorizing the peasants, stealing their food and getting them genocided in reprisal acts. Good freaking job! This is exactly why I pay my taxes to the military. So they would get me killed in case of war!

If the British had landed in the Balkans and liberation was viable you can bet your buttock the Chetniks would’ve been at arms.
But if every German cop you kill is going to get 10 Yugoslav civvies murdered, then it’s better to sit in the forest, peel your potatoes and let the Germans die in Normandy and Belarus.-

They chose to be active when they went around slaughtering Croatian and muslim villages, or when they joined the Axis forces in skirmishes with the Partisans.

If if if, same bullshit all the collaborators and sympathisers who pussied out abroad were spewing. Meanwhile, they couldn’t even keep their bullshit story straight with the dreams of a Greater Serbia inside Greater Yugoslavia that they fostered by doing everything but resisting.

There is some weird obsession with literally being on the beaches day one, even an American president brought this up recently. Of course it was an incredible achievement and demonstrated the bravery and skill of the soldiers on that day, but the war was huge in scope.-

Hundreds of thousands were sentenced to prisons, and many of those were stripped of any legal rights for the remainder of their lives (something that is totally illegal and without any historical precedent in french law). There is a famous case of a radio broadcaster who was arrested for “antisemitism” which was considered “treason”. LOL

GuestOperation Mincemeat was part of the deception around Operation Husky (Allied Invasion of Sicily) are the "plans" included talk and fictional orders and letters around an invasion of Greece and inferred an invasion of Sardinia, not northern france. More importantly than just the Abwehr just believing them, shitler was convinced of their authority, to the extent that he still believed the Balkans were the real target of an allied invasion in the med theater even after the landings in Sicily.
The deceptions for Husky (Operation Barclay) also involved a fictitious army with HQ in Cairo and dumb manoeuvers in Syria and Egypt which was all designed to fool the Germans, similar to what happened for Operation Bodyguard, the deceptions for D-Day.

GuestBecause 1. they were headed by German aristocracy, and all Von’s are cut from the same cloth as Ribbentrop, and barely one degree separation from the circus that are the actual Nazis, 1-A so they disrespected communists on principle, hence the intel shitshow regarding the Red Army, 2. they freaking hated Nazis (mostly for curbing aristocracy) and were offering Britain info on them for support to coup them (Neville "two pillars of anti-communism" Chamberlain refused), 3. they started outright sabotaging the Nazis, 4. they had a Nazi rival, Sicherheitsdienst in the SS, because Nazis love infighting (Social Darwinism and competition totally twerk :^) ), 4-A and reactionaries are inherently cowards, so they will flee or rat on their "comrades", at the first sign of trouble to save themselves.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abwehr#Questionable_commitment_and_recruiting
>Canaris personally gave false information that discouraged Hitler from invading Switzerland (Operation Tannenbaum). He also persuaded Francisco Franco not to allow German forces to pass through Spain to invade Gibraltar (Operation Felix), but it may have been just as much the imposition of the SD. The SD was allegedly spreading rumors about the partition of Spain. SD operatives also established a station at the central post office in Madrid to police mail going through Spain, and even attempted to assassinate one of Franco’s pro-Allied generals, which strengthened Franco’s intransigence to Hitler and the Nazi regime.
OMG, what the fuck."Fuckin outplayed" gives Abwehr more credit than it probably deserves.

The French forces did participate in storming the beaches in the secondary naval invasion in Provence. Beyond that, the forces they did send, especially the 2nd armored division, ended up having some of the most impressive service records of the western front.

GuestSword Beach had 177 French commandos, while the vast majority of Free French forces were participating in Operation Dragoon. Additionally, some (but mostly British) French troops would’ve landed on Band Beach, east of Sword, however the necessity of that landing diminished after American bombers had sufficiently neutralized the German gunneries there in the weeks prior.
