        French contribution on D-Day
        >Only a few French infantry were involved in the Allied landing operations on June 6, 1944. There were 209- 177 commandos and 32 airborne troopers.[36] Additional personnel include a hundred French air force fighter and bomber pilots and hundreds of sailors from the French navy.[36]

details of what they each did:

A free french division was the first to enter paris in august. Moron shithead. 7 french divisions fought in dragoon in provence in august, and 1 landed for the normandy canpaign to participate in that same month.

Paris was not an important target. Americans were working hard to chase after the Germans so that they wouldn’t be able to retreat and reform their defenses in the East. And then de Gaulle demanded that his forces should have the honor to march into Paris instead of making useful contributions. And he somehow got what he wanted, as always.

Free France and the concept of a French Resistance is for the most part one giant LARP they came up with after the liberation of their country by Commonwealth and US forces.
Of course after the krauts got their shit wrecked they were all tripping over themselves to pretend they were part of resistance movements and cells. Hell, even those that were involved in those cells mostly just provided information. At least the partisans in eastern europe actually DID shit.

Most of the allied forces landed in the days after the initial landings. Including the free French and all the other minor allied forces, the Australians, the Polish etc.
There is some weird obsession with literally being on the beaches day one, even an American president brought this up recently. Of course it was an incredible achievement and demonstrated the bravery and skill of the soldiers on that day, but the war was huge in scope.

Americans are really autistic about their amphibious landings. It’s the one thing along with logistics that they have been consistently good at from Day 1.

Wait until you find out about the literal thousands upon thousands of marines that drowned because they were pushed out of the boats too early.

            ha ha what the fuck
draw a cross section of what you think a beach is
then imagine that a boat that floats on top of the water runs into the beach
then draw that on there with a door on the back
you’re really fat and stupid considering you’ve been allowed to live this long

The alternative is to put it at the back and have them mowed down while they wade around the sides instead.

deGaul was an anti-American fighting from the safety of the UK. During WWII when my dad and exhausted Americans troops got to Paris he said Frenchmen were strolling around like they did not have a care in the world. US troops despised them

So for the most part the french citizens enjoyed the German occupation or didn’t mind it, but of course the government controlled by central banks were opposed to the occupation.

It’s still mind boggling to me that even in *le current year* there are people who either haven’t realised or don’t want to admit that Western Europeans simply wanted to be ruled over by the Germans…why else do you think they surrendered so quickly?

Look up épuration sauvage. Doesnt have its own wiki article, wonder (((why))). Tens of thousands of frenchmen were executed, and everyone who promoted rightwing beliefs was arrested. Hundreds of thousands were sentenced to prisons, and many of those were stripped of any legal rights for the remainder of their lives (something that is totally illegal and without any historical precedent in french law). There is a famous case of a radio broadcaster who was arrested for “antisemitism” which was considered “treason”. LOL

In this case the Brits were just super sneaky. They dumped a corpse with fake plans for a Normandy landing on the coast of Spain and Franco and Hitler took the bait.
Previously Hitler had been convinced the landings were coming in Normandy, because they knew the British were training with the type of sand that was found in the Normandy region.

Because 1. they were headed by German aristocracy, and all Von’s are cut from the same cloth as Ribbentrop, and barely one degree separation from the circus that are the actual Nazis, 1-A so they disrespected communists on principle, hence the intel shitshow regarding the Red Army, 2. they freaking hated Nazis (mostly for curbing aristocracy) and were offering Britain info on them for support to coup them (Neville "two pillars of anti-communism" Chamberlain refused), 3. they started outright sabotaging the Nazis, 4. they had a Nazi rival, Sicherheitsdienst in the SS, because Nazis love infighting (Social Darwinism and competition totally twerk :^) ), 4-A and reactionaries are inherently cowards, so they will flee or rat on their "comrades", at the first sign of trouble to save themselves.

            >Canaris personally gave false information that discouraged Hitler from invading Switzerland (Operation Tannenbaum). He also persuaded Francisco Franco not to allow German forces to pass through Spain to invade Gibraltar (Operation Felix), but it may have been just as much the imposition of the SD. The SD was allegedly spreading rumors about the partition of Spain. SD operatives also established a station at the central post office in Madrid to police mail going through Spain, and even attempted to assassinate one of Franco’s pro-Allied generals, which strengthened Franco’s intransigence to Hitler and the Nazi regime.
            OMG, what the fuck.

Degaulle was not the legitimate government. Vichy was. Why do people pretend otherwise? Degaulle and Fre France were a revel faction, like Franco was in the Spanish civil War.

De Gaulle once admitted by his own words that he was in a sense just a mercenary working for the British and he had to act all high and mighty and pretend to be the Father of France to restore French honor.
FDR hated his guts and was trying to negotiate a settlement with Vichy mere hours before the Torch landings. He was furious that these arrogant Frenchman thought that the Americans were sending boys over to die so that the French empire could be restored, when France hadn’t fought to defend it.

Not that many soldiers were involved in taking the beaches. Considerably more troops arrived after they were already taken. The French forces did participate in storming the beaches in the secondary naval invasion in Provence. Beyond that, the forces they did send, especially the 2nd armored division, ended up having some of the most impressive service records of the western front.

Sword Beach had 177 French commandos, while the vast majority of Free French forces were participating in Operation Dragoon. Additionally, some (but mostly British) French troops would’ve landed on Band Beach, east of Sword, however the necessity of that landing diminished after American bombers had sufficiently neutralized the German gunneries there in the weeks prior.
