GuestProbably given a free macbook from apple or their company. Companies often allow you to choose between windows or macos and many Linux users choose macos because unix

GuestLinux is a hobbyist thing. They just grew out of that phase. There is unironically no reason to use linux over macos except for the enjoyment of customizing everything and being like the vegans "oh, I use GAYTOO by the way!" to everyone

GuestIt’s just webdev shits, they’ve been doing that for a long time. Corps give you a choice between a Windows and Mac machine, there’s no Linux option.

GuestmacOS is a really nice and beautiful OS. I’m saying that after having used Ubuntu as my main rig since 2004 or so. Sure it’s not as flexible and developer friendly as Ubuntu, but it is beautiful and rock solid stable. No random crashes, no random UI freeze, they say it just werks, and I tend to agree with that. Linux is a freeing OS in the sense that it frees you from the bounds and limitations that Microsoft and Apple shackle their users with. But that freedom comes at the cost of being free from useful things as well: commercial close-source software, drivers, integration with a smart phone or tablet, things that are desperately needed but missing in Linux. I can’t recall how many times I’ve had to upvote someone’s message pleading a software company to port their shit to Linux. No one does. And no one will. KDEnLive is nice, but it’s not FinalCut Pro. Ardour is okay, but it’s not pro tools. Libre cad is meh, but it’s not AutoCAD. So if you are a Linux user who really misses their proprietary software that will never be ported to Linux, your next best bet is of course Mac, because Darwin is another POSIX-complaint OS, and is in a lot of ways similar to Linux, especially the terminal. That’s why very likely, my next laptop will very likely be a mac. But my desktop workstation will forever be Ubuntu or some flavor of it.

GuestBecause your time is valuable and you are doing a disservice to yourself by wasting your time in dealing with a garbage desktop OS like Linux.
t. someone who fell for the Linux desktop meme and now uses a Mac

GuestAnecdotal evidence:
At the companies I’ve worked at you get to choose between windows or mac
They usually don’t allow linux because they use some kind of remote access or corporate software that is not available on linux
The choice between mac and windows becomes easier since macos > windows for development
Linux is better, but when you can’t have it you use the 2nd best instead of the worst-

GuestThey don’t allow it because it would explode their IT support budget.
In office environment FOSS is so much more expensive than commercial products that it’s not even funny anymore…

GuestI’m moving to macos because I’ve given up.
Nobody wants to listen to me
I’ve been the crazy crackpot friend for over 15 years despite all my predictions being correct they still dismiss me. Nobody wants to fight for their rights. Nobody cares. Why should I even bother anymore? Who am I even trying to save? I might as well get eaten by the machine -

GuestI’m actually one of those Linux fanboys who switched on Mac. I’m not a sys admin, just a dev, all I need is a Terminal. Why should I give a shit about making my life harder with Linux, jumping through hoops to do just about everything I want to do without getting any benefits from it?

GuestBecause FOSS software is shit.
You’re getting what you’re paying for.
FOSS really does nothing to attract actually skillful software engineers.
