Usually. But there are definitely exceptions when the backend work is particularly specialized or critical.

You can actually make a decent amount doing front end stuff in the right company/market, to a degree it’s accurate that backend is more technical and sometimes that can mean higher pay but it’s also the kind of work where if you do everything right often nobody notices you, so it’s not so uncommon to see backend work become a dead end job. As always it’s a good idea to do both and aim for a management role.

full stack developers are actually frontend developers who are able to write crud backends that have barely any business logic. you might be able to earn more at companies that must shitout sites since its cheaper to hire know all but specialized in nothing guy because minimal skill is needed. deadend codemonkey job imo
i’d say by average backend devs earn more, but it all depends on skill
