GuestGoogle >>>>> M$ / FB >>> Apple > Amazon
Google is too big, control 10x more data than any other, has dominance in smarthphones and basically runs the surface web with google.com, youtube and recaptcha. It’s terminal cancer almost everywhere: in phones and internet.
M$ with telemetry in win10 + office 365 inside companies. My last 2 jobs adopted full M$ products and it’s bad. Facebook (the site) is garbage, but this poopyholes has Instagram + Whatsapp – and a lot of normies use it to work.
Apple is shit, but only boomers and scrotes use it. It’s just dumb status symbol.
Amazon I can perfectly live without it.

GuestThis. Netflix is overvalued and their salaries do not compare. There are low tier fortune 500 tech companies like oracle that pay 4x as much as Netflix. Netflix market share is declining and quite frankly never belong to be in the leagues of Google, Apple, Amazon and Microsogt in the first place .
-

GuestSince when? The last time I checked (~2 years ago), they were paying about the same as Facebook and Google, which is a bit more than Apple, Amazon and Microsoft, and like 2x more than Oracle.

GuestManipulating search results to hide politics they don’t like. Playing morality police on youtube.
Not even close to the main reason. They’ve intentionally restructured the web into a corporate tool to provide specific, curated content that earns ad revenue above all else. They manipulate their position as the foremost search engine to quash competitive services while forcing the results they deam most profitable (not relevant anymore) whilst making billions selling their data and telemetry. The internet is no longer a platform for knowledge, it’s a tool to brainwash people into being good little consumers and milking them for their data. Facebook and Google are almost entirely responsible for that shift.

GuestYou’re confusing Apple with Google. Google is largely responsible for the cancerous mobile web. Apple is more responsible for the "appification" of everything, which is equally harmful. Obviously Microsoft, Facebook, and Amazon jumped on those trains too, they were just a little late to the game.

GuestIf you ever do helpdesk work for IBM you would change your mind after one day. I did tier 1 with them for about six months before being promoted to tier 2 (any precocious ten year old can do tier 1 work, but they prefer seniority, so I had to do a lot of extra work for that quick promotion). Even with the pay bump, I quit after three more months. It was a holocaust of micromanagement, clueless teams leads, useless standup meetings, and productivity reports. Not to mention that you’re basically under constant surveillance when you work from home. I couldn’t take a shit without three people asking why I was gone for more than 5 minutes. I eventually flipped out on one of the leads during a work from home day, and told him that he’s welcome to come over and wipe my ass for me any time. Was immediately fired, which is exactly what I was going for. Fuck that place, and fuck traditional tiered tech support environments in general.

GuestGoogle only contributes to and maintains open source projects that directly feed their bottom line. It’s better than giving nothing back, but it’s also a no-brainer to have millions of enthusiastic hobbyists improving your code for free. I think they are also just as dangerous when it comes to social conditioning as Facebook is. Microsoft and Apple are dangerous in some of the same ways, but they’re far more focused on getting people to rabidly consume managed devices and software than shaping the minds of their users. Amazon is just a straight up monstrosity that steadily obliterates small businesses and independent IT workers / firms. It would be a blessing for humanity if any of them crashed and burned, but I doubt it is going to happen any time soon, if at all.

No they’re not. They support millions of hardware combinations. I’m not a fan of Windows but until they create a walled garden ecosystem like Apple where you go exclusively where they lead you (lol no more x86 support guys, ARM going forward) they’re not even remotely in the same realm.

All the cloud providers are basically the same at this point. Who cares. Are you just some old boomer that hates the cloud? I’m not a fan of it either but cloud shit allows some very interesting mechanics that just weren’t possible on prem.
>Has active agreements with glow-in-the-dark alphabet soup
They all do. Use privacy specific providers if that’s what you want.
>Rabidly exploits open source projects
As I mentioned in my post I think they finally realize EEE is counterintuitive to profitability. Azure is their biggest division and Linux runs on the overwhelming majority of their deployments despite their attempts at sabotage over the years. It takes a long time to course correct a massive ship like Microsoft but look at the gaming division for example. They just want users and money.-

GuestThe biggest threat to Microsoft is getting some old timey geezer that doesn’t understand this like Satya Nadella does. You put someone like Don Mattick (former Xbox dude) in the CEO position and he can fuck it all up.
This goes for every company, Apple included. You get someone to replace Tim Cook who supports open source software and tinkering and you’ll see MacOS being sold like Windows is.

GuestGoogle at least open sources major components and their operating systems. If you make an active effort you can avoid their ecosystem and trackers.
Apple is all about control of their ecosystem and their file scanning sets a poor privacy precedent for such a "privacy conscious company" as they claim to be. I don’t like their hardware but if I did I’d probably be somewhat okay with them and actually using their ecosystem.
Facebook freaking blows. On a social level they have destroyed discourse and the way they have created a walled garden within the VR space is despicable.
Microsoft is cool for giving game devs creative and financial freedom in video games but their services and products suck. I’m always concerned about embrace extend and extinguish but overall I think they’ve finally realized that mentality is counterintuitive to profitability. -

GuestApple or Google
Probably Apple since they take as much as they can from open source and give back as little as they can in return-

GuestGoogle – because not only they make most of the money from datamining, but they’re one of the most aggressively promoting globohomo corporations on earth
Facebook – exists only to datamine in any form and shape
Apple – for spawning the worst subset of the human species: the gadget-worshipping bugmen, the wanderlust tattooed e-thots and the queer hipsters that need a mac to watch gay porn
Amazon – for destroying local shops and replacing them with soulless global warehouses
Microsoft – for sneaking telemetry in each of their products and turning users into beta testers

Guest>Which big tech company is the most evil?
Probably Google, but Amazon and Apple run them close with how they treat their workers.
>Which one is the least?
Probably Microsoft. Their hands have been tied for years by various governments to prevent them doing bad stuff, and people watch them like hawks, like IBM back when they were relevant – no such sanctions or attention have been placed on any of the others.
