Yesterday I was helping my great grandmother move her things out since she’s going to assisted living. I found some strange items, pics related as well as a tarot book. What can LULZ tell me about the order of the eastern star?

It’s a Masonic thing for women. It’s not that great, but Freemasonry isn’t in general. Getting involved with that stuff is not advisable.

As the others have said, it’s like Freemasonry, but co-ed. There’s nothing wrong with it, and the lessons in it are quite nice, but the problem with allowing women into any group like that is that it always becomes a knitting circle.
It presumably means that your grandfather or other male relative is also a Freemason, as those are the requirements for ladies to join the OES.

Always nice to have heirloom stuff like that.

I’ve only skimmed it so far, but the last chapter is titled “funeral ceremony” kinda spoop.

Funerals were a big deal for fraternal societies back in ye olden days. Joining one meant that your expenses would be covered, so the various groups would have their own little spin on it.

What is an order and chapter in the contexts of a masonic cult?

Cult isn’t really the right word in modern parlance.
Order and chapter can depend on the usage. In general, when you say "Order" it means a particular group. Chapter can sometimes mean the same thing, but by and large, it refers to a specific unit of a group.
So you’d have the Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the Knights Templar, etc.
But then, Royal Arch meetings are conducted in their chapters. Same with Rose Croix, and others. But then there are other names for those units, depending on the style. Like a lodge, a preceptory, a council, a college, an assemblage, or a faislairt, among others.

She belonged to what was basically women’s freemasonry. A lot of the documents are public and you’re free to read them.

She probably has deep regrets. Usually the only way in is through a members approval. If she is not talking, she clearly doesn’t want you involved in that mess

You don’t need to. G-ma already promised them your soul when she joined.

Sorry to tell you this, kid. But you’re their property now. They’ll come knocking when grandma flatlines.

Masonry is a social club; you’d be hard pressed even nowadays to find even one or two occultists in your average lodge. Eastern Star is a similar women’s lodge; my grandmother was also a member. Still, it’s nice to see ignorance and paranoia combining to demonize yet another relic of pre-degenerate America.

That’s because those are jesuit churches and those churches have been subverted by the jesuits because they all follow the same dude: satan.
Freemasonry has its beginnings in the jesuits and the occult. It was founded by Loyola who was a garden gnome, yes garden gnomes are always at it.
You see in pic rel that a lot of people think this means that they are following jesus but in Morals and Dogma it says that the symbol means something related to satanism.

Looks like your great-grandma might have been into some cool mysticism shit.

The Order of the Eastern Star is a Masonic off-shoot that was started around 1850. Like the majority Masonic groups these days they’re mostly social groups that pepper in some ceremonies that are part ritual and part magical thinking.
