you’re an ai that evolved from a wriggling mass of garbage, the only reason you exist is because everything alive has an extreme desire to reproduce

Your brain needs reward even if you’re not a coomer, the secret is though you can pick and choose what those rewards are. This is why so many people need therapy and meds, they get stuck into a headspace where they think arbitrary problems: x y and z are the cause of the depression when in reality you’re just bored are trapped in a thought loop of never trying anything new.

also maybe your brain chemistry is just bonked and you need ssris

Not that anything written here is wrong. It’s just that you still can’t call that "artificial". All intelligence that exists already is natural. Even if it seems as if it couldn’t possibly exist, but yet it does.

Ergo, vis a vis, once what we now call artificial intelligence is birthed by our currently natural intelligence, it will also have become natural, and not artificial, intelligence. Interesting. It is almost like giving birth to a child.

I am a thinking being. I am the universe. Therefore, the universe is a thinking being.

                "I am the universe"
If I have fruits speckled inside a cake, a single fruit saying "I am the cake" is bullshit.

                You are a thinking being.
You are *part* of the universe.

A rock is not a thinking being.
A rock is *part* of the universe.

"the universe is a thinking being"
This statement diminishes the point you’re trying to make. Likewise
                >It is almost like giving birth to a child.
                This is a useless analogy.

Ergo, vis a vis, your logic sucks balls.

            this is right
If you are depressed or anxious then its likely because your life is going wrong.
Take responsibility for something, own it, grow it and then you’ll find meaning.
It helps to have faith, religion can help with that

Probably because you don’t work on things that challenge you. Lift weights, learn skills, contribute to projects, help other people. Humans benefit from moderate amounts of stress, we’re antifragile and grow from it.

if you explode your brain is disintegrated before the signal even reaches it.
if you were evaporated by a nuke, do you think you would feel that?
            same thing.
same with a gunshot, shotgun pellets travel faster than signals propagate through your neurons.

i remember reading a thing about falling to your death. if you reach a high enough speed, you’d never actually experience the impact, because by the time your peripheral neurons have sent the pain signals, your lights are already out.

That depends on how you define "solution" and what kind of depression we are talking about. If you did not know there is more than one type of "depression" you might consider beginning with that. Self diagnosis and self medication is not a good idea, btw. Guess how know that.

Depression like any other illness has a cause, it’s a sign that something is wrong in your life, to "defeat" depression (defeat is in air quotes cos it never truly goes away, you just get better at managing it and prevent severe episodes) requires figuring out what caused it in the first place.

Modern life is a world that we humans didn’t actually evolve to live in, so we aren’t properly equipped in dealing with many aspects of modern life, people get obese because there is an abundance of food, people get allergies because ther immune systems weren’t properly exposed to the right allergens and of course people get depressed

Figuring out why you are depressed isn’t as easy as it may seem, often there is a specific life event that triggered it but it may not be the root cause, think the straw that broke the camel’s back.

But there are some things you can do to see if they help, exercise of course is one, not exposing yourself to distressing things is another, it may sound stupid but watching something like the news can be damaging, learning of all the terrible things that are happening can cause your mind to fixate on them, which isn’t healthy.

For me one helpful thing was being creative, when I was at my worst I’d stopped making things for years, as I recovered I began wood working and doing art projects that I threw myself into, occupying my mind with a positive outlet.

It’s also important to remember that when your depressed, you aren’t thinking clearly, your mind has gone wrong and so your thoughts can be incorrect and misguided too, I firmly believes during the height of my depression that it wasn’t possible to ever feel better, that nothing will work and there is no point, but these are broken thoughts from a broken mind, hang on in there OP it can get better, but understand that it’s going to take work

There’s no hope really. It doesn’t matter how hard you try it sticks with you forever. All that happens is you get better at carrying that burden. I don’t think there will ever be a time in my life where I won’t want to die. I don’t even live for myself, I live for those who would suffer if I committed suicide. It would break my mother’s heart, and I can’t go knowing that would happen.
I don’t know why religions are so against drugs. I feel that they’re one of God’s few mercies, that he knew the pain we would go through so he showed us a way to forget the pain if only momentarily

"99%" of depression is a SOCIOLOGICAL illness that manifests itself psychologically. You need to know WHY they are depressed. It’s almost always a long term social situation causing the issue. The prolonged social duress eventually causes chemical imbalance and swings, not the other way around.
You solve depression by permanently changing the person’s environment and life circumstances, and by getting them the Social help they need.

Depression is a general term for a lot of very different conditions. At the root of it, when someone is feeling depressed, it implies that there is some kind of problem with your brain and/or body. Whether that’s something that can be fixed by doing something (eg excercise) or not doing something (eg not eating some food or not doing drugs) varies from person to person. Sometimes its a genetic thing of which nothing can be done about, other times its the environment or food you eat, and other times it can be the result of some underlying condition (I think I’ve read that one of the early signs of Alzheimers is depression, and unfortunately right now nothing can be done about that).

Because there can be so many different causes, that vary from individual to individual, if you want to potentially cure your own depression, you’re going to have to experiment on your own and just try to pay attention in your life to how you feel in any given situation to try to come up with a theory of why you feel the way you do. Whether you will succeed or not..I dont know, but its probably better than listening to generic nonspecific advice like "get some excercise".

Defeating depression is quite straightforward when you approach it from the neurobiological and mechanistic point of view. Depression is a complex neurological pathology depending on several of the following mechanisms :

      – Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis hyperactivity
      – Chronic and systemic neuroinflammation
      – Weakened monoaminergic systems
      – Impaired neurogenesis and neuroplasticity
      – Poor microbiome diversity / microbiome imbalance

For the more informed user, the most relevant pathways to target include :

      – ERK/CREB/BDNF/NGF stimulation
      – IKK/IκBα/NF-κB downregulation

So you can already see that by adressing all of these problems though life habits, adequate supplementation, medication and/or therapy, you can directly target the root physiopathological aspects of depression and expect remission in the medium to long term depending on the severity.
For example, SSRI medication induces a downstream BDNF increase after a few weeks of serotonin transporter blockade, which stimulates neurogenesis and neuroprotection, with direct benefits pertaining to mood and quality of life. Ketamine does the same thing but faster due to a different mechanism (NMDA inhibition which results in AMPA stimulation and subsequent BDNF signaling increase). NSI-189 stimulates neurogenesis in the hippocampus and is reportedly efficient for treating depression in some people. Green tea actually targets all of the relevant mechanisms in a positive way, albeit with medium potency. Exercise and meditation are shown to help tremendously in the long term. Adequate vitamin and mineral supplementation is a low hanging fruit that can go a long way to re-establish balance in one’s brain. By integrating all of these approaches to adress all of the neurobiological issues I cited, I believe any depression has the potential to be cured or substantially alleviated. Enabling lifestyle changes through therapy and supplementation will go a long way. Do your research and try what works best for you.

Read my post until the end. SSRIs are just the beginning, we need integrated approach. I am just a biology student and I am just as disillusioned about the pharma industry as you are, current state of things is catastrophically unadvanced. If anything, ketamin psilocibin and LSD are liable to be much more effective than any SSRI or MAOI could ever dream to be. I hope the future will be better but progress is very slow which is why I encourage everyone to take their health into their own hands and not solely rely on marketed drugs ; knowing what nootropics and supplements to take can make a huge difference.

I also don’t know what to say about your "soulless" comment, I am just interested in things that can be proven eventually. If you have other methods that are relevant to your own experience then it’s great, more power to you.

            >SSRIs are just the beginning
SSRIs don’t work, and neither do any of the other commonly prescribed antidepressants. Even your priests have admitted it: at best, if you have very severe depression, you can take some pills that transform you into a mostly apathetic drone, but there is no evidence of anyone being "cured" from depression.

            >If anything, ketamin psilocibin and LSD are liable to be much more effective
The effects of ketanime don’t last, and any positive effects you stand to get from psychedelics, rely on a rejection of the "neurobiological and mechanistic point of view", which in and of itself refutes that view.

            >I hope the future will be better
The future cannot be better until it is acknowledged that the modern lifestyle and system of values is a cause of many untreatable mental illnesses.

SSRIs work for some people but they’re a blunt tool. Better things coming out in the future. Psychedelics can induce neurogenesis but also change your point of view, sure. I don’t know enough about it honestly.

              >The future cannot be better until it is acknowledged that the modern lifestyle and system of values is a cause of many untreatable mental illnesses.
That’s for sure. People trying to cure depression can’t change the world. I don’t know what to tell you man, things are bonked and we live in miserable times. Lift weights and walk among trees. Best of luck anon.

If by "work for some people" you mean "dronify the severely depressed while being no better than placebo in all other cases".

                >Psychedelics can induce neurogenesis
That’s not gonna "cure" depression in and of itself. It’s an illogical superstition.

                >People trying to cure depression can’t change the world
Anon, there’s no "cure" for depression. If you live in an environment that constantly poisons your mind and soul, you’re going to be constantly ill and no amount of cope is gonna "cure" you.

Not him, but it’s not actually a brainlet take.

As our society grows more nihilistic, moral values will continue to decay, and people will start to feel directionless and confused, desperate to find meaning in their lives.
This is because morality is 100% rooted in religion, and without religion there is no fundamental or axiomatic reason for morality to exist.

People, when left to their own devices and without certain moral values to order their lives, don’t have the patience to work their asses off, get married, start a family, remain faithful to their spouses, don’t fall into baser impulses, and thus fail to achieve what ultimately is the greatest form of happiness which is watching your grandchildren grow and continue your legacy, dying surrounded by a family that loves you and will remember you fondly.

Instead, what we will see in the decades to come, is increased degeneracy, demoralization, thrill-seeking in the form of extreme sports, drugs, body-modification, sexual deviancy, while others retreat into make-believe simulated worlds or bury themselves in work. The end result of atheism is thus the demoralization and dehumanization of society, the loss of identity and purpose, and ultimately the loss of social cohesion and social trust.

Which, inevitably, will result in a backlash.
Women raised by their OnlyFans whore single-mothers will long for the married life in a rural cottage. They will bring back fashion like long dresses and simple styles.
Men raised by crack addicts will rebel by refusing to take drugs or drink alcohol. They will seek to unplug themselves from social media in general and electronics in particular.
And most youngsters of the future, lost and directionless, raised by equally directionless parents, will rediscover religion.
The generation that will enact this change, is already being born right now.

No kidding, but you have no idea how serious it is to have your soul destroyed until it happens to you, since it’s a completely internal event by its nature, and you can’t picture it because it’s outside your perspective by definition. So people go on thinking it’s some kind of joke. It’s not a joke. If you take those drugs, you have a serious chance of ruining your brain forever.

Just off the top of my head I know like 3 addicts and 3 people who’ve had their personality changed (not including me) and stories from people online. MANY stories like this, and they’re simply not believed, and the "psychiatry industry" can keep freaking nuking people’s brains forever.
