GuestIt’s interesting, this got doomsayed a lot but the Chinese managed to be good stewards of the brand for almost 20 years. It’s only recently that Thinkpads have started to become a progressively worse value. Wonder what happened.

GuestIBM wants red hat to stay a separate entity. You may have also heard of IBMs GTS/GBS split into a new company called Kyndryl. Both RH and Kyndryl are self contained with their own leadership. IBM learned to not fuck up companies that are doing well by replacing existing employees/management with IBM employees/management after the cognos disaster…

GuestThey make hardware and software for businesses that the business buys and then they make that business pay licensing fees to continue to use that hardware or software.
You may be asking yourself
>What business would be scrotebrained enough to do that?
The answer is all of them because "support" from a third party is just a nice way to say that if shit goes wrong you have someone other than yourself to blame. -

GuestMost large banks, airlines, etc rely on IBM mainframes. This is also how IBM shot themselves in the foot early on instead of investing in cloud. Now we are playing catch up…
