What everyone else said. I’m not sure why you’d even want an MP3 player in 2021, they had ultra dogshit DACs, dogshit battery life if you played anything more than 128kbps MP3, and limited if not a complete lack of an equalizer.

Only if you exclusive playback 128kbps MP3s which sound like ass. The battery life of playing back music even 256kbps AAC on a modern day smartphone (even the cheap ones) is so absurdly long that people stopped testing music playback battery life.

it was absurdly long a decade ago. in high school i remember playing music being one of the lowest draining things i could do on my phone because battery life was shit back then

ive been using a random mp3 player from Victure (Victure m3), works real nicely as long as bluetooth isnt a must, but i’m assuming it wont be. bluetooth works but is a bit irritating. (will disconnect if you try to view a jpg etc)

you could probably find stuff just looking it up on various places, do let us know though, i’ve been thinking about getting something new. i also presume youre not looking to drop 1000+ on it?

at first I wanted an MP3 player because using a phone for anything but phone features is cringe and zoomerpilled, but then I found out that the only MP3 players still made today are just phone wannabes or audiophool bait. and I don’t know any MP3 player that can play module formats anyway. I installed VLC on my phone and it’s working great.

Not many people even know this but MP3 players have one of the most dogshit DACs on this entire planet. There’s a reason they can operate on like 10 milliwatts of power.

ok anon here’s my ultracomfy setup. I think I really went consooomer mode on this but I use it daily and have been enjoying it so I think it has been worth it.
      I got an Xduoo X3ii, ~$100
      and TinT2 earbuds ~$50
The earbuds are unironically one of the best tech purchases I’ve made in the last few years. I had some cheapo $20 gaymer earbuds before and they broke on me. I also had some $150 wireless ones and some cheap $30 wireless ones and both sucked really bad, so i decided to get a wired upgrade. Since I was getting nice earbuds i decided I might as well get a decent music player too, so i bought the xduoo. It has bluetooth if you use that, and an equalizer too. Battery lasts me around 10 hours of listening. The stock UI on it was kinda werid though so I installed this
      https://github.com/SinuXVR/xDuoo-X3II-custom-firmware
and now listening to music is extra comfy. I think the player is kinda overpriced for a music player, but I don’t regret buying it.

      >mp3 player
In the late 1990s it became feasible to make portable, solid-state digital audio players. Most players supported the patented MP3 codec, and that is still the case. Some players also supported the patent-free audio codecs Ogg Vorbis and FLAC, and a few couldn’t play MP3-encoded files at all because their developers needed to protect themselves from the patents on MP3 format.

Using the term “MP3 players” for audio players in general has the effect of promoting the MP3 format and discouraging the other formats (some of which are technically superior as well). Even though the MP3 patents have expired, it is still undesirable to do that.

We suggest the term “digital audio player,” or simply “audio player” when that’s clear enough, instead of “MP3 player.”

I’ve been using one of these since 2012 and it’s still rocking today. My only complain is the lack of space after all this years. I have no alternative when this one dies so I guess I’m condemned to use my phone and deal with the cables every time I take it from my pocket to skip a song.
