      Retro/Vintage Tech
Posting part of a collection of way back Tech.
Some conceptual and others that actually made it into production.
It’s fascinating to see the metamorphosis of some of the earlier
tech and how it is still around Today.

Starting off with an IBM "calculator" .
Add what you have and the thread is open for discussion or comments.

This one is interesting. I would want to see where the stand in dolls ended up after the blast. Sounds like the stand ins at the dinner table and bed got bonked.

They did a lot of crazy set ups in Nevada.
Ever see the clip with the Trees?
They dug them up and replanted them near one of the Blasts.

I think I have seen those. The trees always get bonked, like any other structure. For me, seeing the wreckage at a fake home site is more interesting and apocalyptic. I think you can find some of videos that match with the magazine. Fascinating. Probably more videos out there still.

              Nice
After some of the tests the Gov went into full propaganda mode and claimed " A clean and well maintained Home"
              would survive a blast better.

        Guest

Fun Fact Leon Theremin, inventor of the eponymous musical instrument also invented "the thing" a covert listening device inside a great seal of the united states "gifted" to the American ambassador in Moscow by the Young Pioneers (basically the soviet boy scouts).
The thing was a cavity resonator that didn’t need any power supply or active electronic components, instead it operated when a specific radio frequency was sent to it, shit was basically RFID, very cool stuff.

This is an interesting idea and retro as fuck but there is no way this would really work well compared to having a standalone fridge, stove and sink.

As neat as this is, I suspect there will be heat dissipation issues what with having a stovetop and a refrigerator sharing the same volume. The sink would probably be better integrated with the fridge though because then you could easily have a built-in cold water dispenser and ice-cube maker. Effectively a mini-bar lol

      Very early mercury vapor lamp
      Must be tilted to start
Contained a pound or two of mercury

Was mostly displaced by newer higher efficiency incandescent lamps that also had better color rendering. Stuck around in text printing shops and film deployment ironically enough.

Since this thread has mostly stuff from Freedom Land, here’s something unique from the Soviet Union.

The Caspian Sea Monster, an ekranoplan.
Plane that "flies" or rather glides above water using the ground effect. Although they can’t really fly high, the ground effect means that their fuel efficiency (and sometimes their top speed) is better than on a normal airplane. The Soviets made few bigger ones like this one for military use in the 60s and 70s. Some smaller ground-effect-vehicles are still being made in modern times.
