I have mixed feeling here. I hate FB for a lot of reasons, and love seeing them get in trouble, but the issues they are calling them out on will only make things worse. The downright evil data gathering, ad targeting, and gobbling up of competition are the real problems but now we’re just focused on trying to get them to censor more and act as a proxy for the government to propagandize. That’s because in other countries, conservatives are less "out there" than conservatives in the US. That’s not to say that there aren’t similar types but they’re fringe whereas in the US they seem to make up the majority of the Republican base.
The problem with Americans in general is that they operate on feeling first and reason second. The US is without any question the most religious country in the west, it’s also the one where claims of UFOS/alien abductions/hippie/flat earth new age bullshit comes from.

The only reason Facebook isn’t as aggressive as Twitter about banning people and deleting stuff is that people use it to stay in touch with their families. If some guy’s account disappears without warning, or his posts keep disappearing mid argument in the comments section, his family is still going to call him or email him or something, and he’s going to know what’s up, and he’ll at least try and organize a movement among his family to another platform that isn’t as deep in the business of social engineering.
