Guest>If building a PC TODAY
No.I really want a Raptor Engineering Blackbird workstation but I can’t justify the cost. Even if I bought the bare board and CPU+heatsink bundle and used off the shelf parts for everything else I’d be looking at nearly $3000 for a quad core machine. I know it has SMT4 providing 16 threads but still, what the fuck man? If I could buy the complete system for around $1000 I’d do it.
I also hear it’s a pain in the ass to make the firmware play nice with PCIe cards like a Radeon GPU. If I’m paying $3000 that shit should be plug and play.

GuestIntel has been stagnant for half a decade, to be on the safe side get an AMD CPU, they’re better and support old motherboards longer. Also they’re better and will be for at least a 2-3 years

GuestAMD, intel’s cache is limited in size, this directly effects it’s performance when you do anything that efficiently uses every thread or you end up maxing out two threads on the same core.
Intel makes a good core, but a shitty CPU. -

intelonly threadripper and epyc platforms aren’t a freaking joke in the amd side
am4 is pure trash, everything is bugged, they never did any QA and let manufacturers did whatever the fuck they want (aka reducing costs and scamming consumers) also amd already stopped trying to improve it and they’re sueing whoever is trying to mainline features to linux like various sensors formulas and they refuse to send a tiny pdf file to linux devs with the correct formulas and they refuse to do the tiny MR themselves.
you have to realize how absolutely insane this is, it costs them literally nothing, an intern could do send the MR, it takes 30 seconds to do, but it won’t happen because AM4 was already deprecated at launch while zen 4 epyc support is already mainlined…I have a 5950X and if alder lake is any good then I’m switching back to intel, I don’t give a shit about muh housefire, electricity is cheap and I would rather have a working platform than the abomination I’m currently stuck with.
thy have to hire trillions of devs and lawyers to fix this mess, fuck amd and fuck manufacturers who sell us junk because amd does not care.-

Guest>>Intel-scrote completely ignores the list of platform issues and stupid bugs that have plagued Intel-stuff for years and still continue today.
such as?
intel software support is the best by extremely far they have more software engineers than amd has employees and it shows.
linux and clang already has support for lunar lake sensors/optimizations respectively whereas you still can’t read voltage and other sensors without third-party modules for zen 1/2/3 and clang/gcc zen3 opitimization level is still in alpha one year later…
they also did not care about the new linux default scheduler even though linux devs warned everyone one year before and constantly tried to reach out to amd devs in order to fix obvious regressions they and michael from phoronix found…
they plaed dead for a year and once the scheduler hit mainline zen perfs dropped and amd reeeed at linux devs for not warning them and how intel was trying to disrupt amd yadda yadda.
They so out-of-touch with reality it’s not fun anymore, not even apple disrespect its fanatics like this, amd only cares about the datacenter market and it’s very obvious, you have no reason to defend this garbage company, they will do just fine because [email protected] don’t give a shit about using garbage products anyway
all of this is documented everywhere, from LULZ to linux various mailing-lists, amd does not care about you and you have no reason to support them and i regret giving them a chance.
>They are also a kiddie, who never touch jumpers, DIP switches, or have to allocate DMA/IRQ/Port with their devices and don’t know how good they have it
you were still pooping your pants I was already using computers professionally, you have nothing to teach me-

GuestI’d go for ryzen 5600x, I don’t need that many cores for what I do but the low power draw and high IPC would be nice (compared to my ancient haswell)
but I don’t really feel like I need to upgrade yet, maybe in a year or two when ddr5 is a bit more reasonably priced and amd has the crazy 200mb 3D caches -

GuestDepends on the use case, for office PCs I would go with Intel, better availability for parts with iGPU and these are more common then AMDs iGPUs, so less likely to encounter bugs. Same goes for motherboards, almost all business oriented boards are made for Intel, I guess AMD will catch up but until now it didn’t happen. For a Gaming PC with dGPU AMD is the easy choice unless you get an amazing deal on an i7 or i9 the AMD parts are just better (Ryzen 5000 vs Intel 11th gen is no competition)

There are genuine entertainers doing this just for the money. There’s a notorious celebrity drag queen in Germany since like the early 2000s. Most of the public has no idea what he looks like day to day, but apparently he’s happily married to a woman and even has kids.-

GuestI would rather have a 3770K and a 2060 (which is what I have atm) or 2080ti rather than a 10400F or some newer CPU with a shit graphics card like a 1060ti. GPU is way more important for gaming, at least in the games like I play, since my CPU can always max out at 144FPS but I don’t want to play at shit tier graphics settings.

I actually did just buy a CPU. Not quite building a new PC, just stitching one together from my old parts with a new case, mobo, and CPU.
Regardless, Intel is the obvious choice. Far fewer stability issues. The raw performance is a bit worse than AMD’s higher end shit for sure, but I’ll happily sacrifice a couple of frames to not have shit crash all the time.
