GuestDo you even know the first thing about Koreans? They’re the most cult-prone, superstitious freaking people among East Asia.
Even South Korea is like these, they have Moonies & millenarian Protestant cults infesting their land, and Shaman cabals ruling the government.

GuestBecause they know they’re on the right side of history. North Korea is unironically a workers’ paradise. Everything you hear about human rights abuses and death camps and whatnot is all Western capitalist propaganda.

I mean its not really paradise but SK propaganda really lie about them
they even resort to luring NK workers from China by promising better pay and then taking their passports and forcing them to sign of loyalty papers so they can’t never leave SK and go back to NK-

Yeeaaaa fat chance of that but still i’ll believe you, a couple of families don’t speak for millions of zitizens. You shouldn’t base your worldview on anecdotes

GuestNorth Korea being a “worker’s paradise” and denying human rights abuses there are not very reasonable views which only hardcore communists have. It’s illegal to try to leave and a lot more people defect from North Korea than to North Korea.

Pardon, but those same accusations (and more) that you levy against DPRK can be levied against many nations, South Korea included. Nevertheless, only DPRK is treated as some special case.>a lot more people defect from North Korea than to North Korea.
I’m not sure about that, nor the idea that this proves anything conclusively. -

GuestWhile North Korea isn’t a paradise it’s also not the hellhole which the west portrays it as. Koreans are crafty people and have found a way to subsist despite pretty brutal sanctions. living there is better than third world countries and much better if your in pyongyang.

GuestKim Jong Uns vacations in NK sound like a a typical Ozark or Wildwood type getaway, nice but nothing extravagant really (woke af off The Great Successor). People described working there also sound like typical locals in those places.

GuestNorth Korea seems like a highly repressive state but I agree. I don’t think it would’ve survived this long if the regime wasn’t capable of motivating or inspiring their people. Or it might suck in some ways, but people grow up within it from birth and at some point decide to get on with their life.

GuestThis, western media is degenerate and thrives on sensationalism before facts. North korean secrecy and resistance to outsiders only exasterbates the misinformation. The misinformation runs so deep that there’s multiple in this thread repeating debunked narratives.

GuestTabloids running scandalous headlines doesn’t make it any less shit. Notice the two things those headlines have in common? First, they’re about personel and secondly, they’re about disappearances. If North Korea allowed the free press to visit the country or even freedom of speech those headlines wouldn’t exist and those meme images don’t even challenge the poverty of north Korean people, just the status of literal whos

Guest>If North Korea allowed the free press to visit the country
Why should foreign countries automatically have this right as a given? It’s not like the western world has north koreas best interests at heart
>those meme images don’t even challenge the poverty of north Korean people
The point of the images is to show the quality of the journalism surrounding NK in the mainstream news outlets. The irony here is that your assertion of North korean povery is woke af in memes and slanderous journalism like that picture. But yes continue eating up that narrative, im sure you would support some kind of foreign intervention to free the North koreans

Guest>keep generals rich
>keep balance of power among them
No one would coup because the risk of them losing their wealth is greater, and the reward for any other officer to snitch on them is even more so.
None will rebel unless backed by China.-

GuestThe USSR was undone by numerous competing power factions in a vast multi-ethnic state. China is a vast country with many competing power factions that have to be appeased and some balance/compromise needed. North Korea however has no base of wealth or power outside Kim and his buddies, who have no motivation to fix what (for them) isn’t broken.

GuestBecause the Kim family are a bunch of fat lazy degenerates that let the military nomenklatura run the country. If they overstepped the boundaries, the military absolutely would depose of the ruler and put his sis/son/niece/cousin in his place. The cult of personality prevents them from directly going against the family, but one son could be swapped for another with relative ease.

Generals aside, everyone in Best Korea is starving so there is no energy to rebel against Kim , most escapees don’t defect for freedom but for food. On top of that the north Korean education system teaches the people that they exist purely to worship Kim, there is no world without Kim.-

GuestAn incomplete explanation, but I’ll give it a go.
As I understand it, according to Lankov, one of the reasons for the stability of the regime is the role played by the OGD (Organization and Guidance Department) and the way they run things behind the scene. The OGD maintains files on all members, especially those of higher rank. These files can consist of former classmates who have expressed sentiments against the regime or goods you acquired through the private markets.
These files are used to determine who gets to climb the ranks and thus increase the likelihood of maintaining stability. Case in point would be how Kim Jong Il used his position in the OGD to ensure that he would be his father’s successor (at the time, his half-sis stood in a more favorable position).
I’m sure it’s more complicated than this, but it’s what I got.
