But it seems bizarre that not one of the forts could hold out long enough to get a handle on the situation.

You know literally nothing about the Alhucemas Campaign if you believe that the French saved the day. The French Navy had a logistical role in the Alhucemas landing. If you had read a single book on the Spanish and French colonial wars of the 20th century you’d know this.-

Nope. The decisive battle that won the Riffian war was the Alhucemas landing of 1925, which was planned and executed by the Spanish army. The French navy did play a supporting role in logistics, since the French were orders of magnitude better than the Spanish at logistics, but France didn’t do any fighting. In fact French soldiers didn’t land until the Spanish troops had secured the beach and sent the Riffians on the run. Read any report on the Alhucemas landing. It’s basic military history.

the problem is like every brown person you lack some understanding of how diplomatic relations work. Morocco offers a very needed help with islamic terrorism, also the EU is very interested on keeping the scrote king in power as a contention for radical islamism thriving in Morocco, so we have to swallow that crap in exchange of something more important.

Because that "battle" was actually a betrayal followed by an ambush, like the "battle of Didgori" or the "battle of Gandamak". The Spanish army included a lot of native Riffian auxiliaries – who at Abd el-Krim’s signal turned their guns to their unsuspecting Spanish officers and murdered them. The Spanish troops, finding out that they had been stabbed in the back by their own auxiliaries, started a chaotic retreat and were easy prey for an ambush. More or less the same thing as Teutoburg Forest or Talas, two other famous ‘battles’ that weren’t battles.
