      DuckDuckGo has changed their algorithm

I noticed it happened very suddenly. I wasn’t even searching for political shit but I noticed my regular searches were suddenly not yielding relevant results like that had previously done so.

Did the "white couple, american inventors" test and my suspician checks out.
DDG used to return normal nonpozzed results for that, now it’s identical results to google.

What’s the next best search engine to use now?
I’m not even interested in searching for politcal stuff, I just want to be able to search for random DIY questions without getting bombarded with shit like
      >"why philip screws are racist and you should use flat heads to protect the environment"

DuckDuckGo donates money to leftist organizations. Switch to a different engine. I’m trying out qwant (it also has a lite version), I’ve also heard yandex is good. Also up for any other anon’s suggestions.

Literally who cares. They also don’t actually do this. They very clearly donate to privacy/open source projects, so you are technically right when implying that FOSS is economically left wing.

You’re actually a freaking idiot. Brave, unlike DDG and StartPage, uses its own index. Both DDG and Startpage are meta search engines so they use Google/Bing/Yahoo results. Brave is only a meta search engine for images. It’s also still in beta.

does anyone else remember how this entire board was anti-ddg a few years ago when their data practices and donation habits were leaked? its almost like nu-LULZ only knows ddg exists because it got added to the firefox search options.

just use searx. its been proven that anyone that has ever mentioned brave, startpage, or yandex on this board are paid shills. searx just pulls the search results from whatever sites you want without sending data. it can also be locally instanced.

      • #185746
        Anonymous
        Guest

as a side note, as far as I can tell searx pulls the search results before its put through any algorithm so the results are actually relevant to what you typed. this means you can have it only pull from Google and it would still feel like 2009 again.

only ddg hides your ip from other search engines due to special agreements.
everyone else needs to sent other search engines your ip to use their api.
so don’t complain later when the feds come knocking because you searched for the wrong keywords.

you really think ddg doesn’t do that so they have a mass collection of ip addresses from people that care enough about privacy but too dumb to do any research? I put ddg in the same boat as nordvpn.

rule of law exists. a privacy policy is legally binding.
so yeah, ddg does not log ips:

Also, duck duck go is not as private as people think it is. They still sell your search data and make a shitload in profit. They literally have billboard ads in my state, why would they do that if they weren’t making money? Also they pay their devs like 200k a year, it’s pretty crazy.

I’ll give you a handy, simple little mental tool to parse the world you live in, and you’ll try it a few times and throw it away because the results won’t line up with what the tv says and you believed:
Try reversing the races of anyone involved in any situation, see if things stay the same or should be different.

Imagine image searching black couple and every picture was an interracial couple. Imagine searching every race’s ‘mom with baby’ and then you search ‘black mom with baby’ and every baby is white. How can you ignore this stuff?

      distributed search engine
you can even run as many yacy nodes as you like, for yourself, or just search using existing nodes.
The point is you can create your own search algorithms and its vanilla. No slewed results. It takes some getting used to but you dont get a billion corporate results. these are results that genuinely reflect an unbiased search if that is what you want

I think in that particular case it’s because it’s returning the american part of "african american" thus it shows mostly blacks. I get the same results on qwant, DDG, google and yandex.

So either someone is gaming SEO with black inventors, or it’s returning "african american" inventors, or no one calls white inventors "white" american thus they don’t get returned.

I first noticed it a week or so ago, though the results have been getting gradually shittier for a year or so. The only good search engine left is yandex, which has cпилик captchas every 2 searches if you’re using a non botnet browser

I just actually tried duckduckgo as my main search engine today.
This shit sucks ass. Even while turning off all the random filters and configurations, it’s substantially worse for finding the relevant results in searches
      >results for things in my language / related to my region (brazilian)
      >results for things in english
      >searching random stuff related to windows / programming
      >searching for things related to this site
      >searching for my friend’s websites
All were substantially worse than using, say, google google.

I recall just doing some searches on it for curiosity purposes in the past and it worked nicely, but now it just seems terrible, i dunno if it’s just because i hadn’t tried it in depth before or because something changed.

Yes, Duckduckgo has been censoring results for years now. Try looking for movies to stream for free, it has gotten very difficult lately. Yandex is the best one atm.

Is yandex good as an everyday search engine for literally everything?
I’ve been using it for images since years but never thought of trying it out for anything else

I just searched DDG for phillips screwdriver and I didnt see any results telling me phillips screwdrivers are racist.
Are you sure you didnt search for prince philip?

Do they still only return one page of results even for extremely common search terms? Was my major problem with it when I tried it a while ago.

Who cares. Also Brendan Eich literally got fired from Mozilla for lobbying against gay marriage. I don’t care about the political beliefs of people who make a product. I care solely about the actual product.
