Native USB, lower latency, hardware macro support, entirely remappable on the fly, NKRO, hotkeys.>You can’t get N key rollover like that sadly.
Of course you can, you have to cut a few traces and run a few patch cables yourself.-

GuestIt’s more lightweight, and with KernelEx it supports most of XP-only software (at the very least it runs the software I need). The computer I have it on is an Atom N270 potato of a netbook, so any bit of optimization helps.
Also I just like the way it looks. -
October 9, 2021 at 9:08 pm #189262

GuestI also like 2000 over XP. More lightweight, less buggy (especially with the kernel), and it didn’t get botched with all of the security stuff that Microsoft packed into SP3. Overall a lot cleaner in terms of UX as well.

October 9, 2021 at 9:13 pm #189264

GuestFirefox 52 ESR is the newest version of the official builds that will run on XP. If you have communication with them, you could advise them to use MyPal. Given that it’s a fork of Pale Moon, it might still be problematic, but I’d imagine it would be at least slightly better in terms of compatibility.

i’ve personally never used the regular versions of xp with activation, because why on earth would i want activation?
i’m pretty sure there are ways to crack the activation as well, but 99% of pirates just used the vlk version to skip it altogether, it’s not like it was hard to get, actually you could get it before xp was even out-

GuestI use both WinXP and Win98SE on my two offline machines. They’re simply excellent OS’s, and the last usable Windows. I use Manjaro Linux on my daily drivers. I find it baffling that anyone still seriously uses Windows. Basically the thing only exists because of gamers. The continued existence of Windows and Apple is a mystery.

GuestActually Vista software compatibility is a bit better than XP. Since the OS is much closer to 7 than XP, a lot of software that isn’t "supported" works. And there are developers who still supoort it, but not XP such as K-Lite Codec Pack and AIMP.

>I bought this turbo tax and it says its not compatiblle
Yeah you need to upgrade, xp hasn’t been supported since 2012
>That doesn’t make any sense, it still works though
There are no security updates from Microsoft so XP is dangerous to use for online activities.later
>I can’t log onto my bank, it says my systems out of date
Yeah… We have been going over this for the past several years, you NEED TO UPGRADE
>But I like XP
But it doesn’t WORK with anything anymore. you HAVE to upgrade
>Maybe I’ll just start going to the bank instead of going onlinefreaking dude won’t budge.

I will keep that in mind thank you! but…I’m sick of dealing with hardware thats old AF, for stubborn people who refuse any ioda of change in their daily lives. I’m over people trying to have me hunt down exact replacements for their ancient flip phone because after 10 years, the ‘8’ button isn’t working anymore… and complaining their Pentium 4 Dell dimension tower is slow, or the hdd failed and they’re not going to throw it away because they paid $900 back in the early 00’s.
I do enjoy playing with older equipment, but the stubborness of John Q Public is just killing me now a days

GuestLol yeah i wish… Also im too nice. I let them get away with more than I should. Most of my older customers are the type of boomer who blames you for anything currently wrong because you touched it last… I used to take it in stride, but I’ve gotten to where I basically make them admit that its not my fault because i’m sick of their shit. Windows update causes a pc to not boot, my fault because i reset their gmail password a month ago… Screen is broken 4 months after I do a malware removal and Its totally not related to shutting a pen in the laptop.
I had one the other day expected me to give them a free hdd and windows install because ‘you sold me this computer’…. 4 years ago… I had to explain that ‘this is like buying a pair of shoes, and after wearing them for 4 years, they have a hole in them. You either pay a cobbler to fix the hole or you get a new pair of shoes… A company will replace them if they are defective off the bat, but not because they wear down.
These boomers think that buying a computer is like buying furniture, or kitchen cabinets, you should ‘have it for life’ essentially. With XP, vista, and 7 I now just say NO, upgrade your shit (a little more nicely of course). Only then to be hit with a barrage of ‘senior discount? military discount’ "I’m on a fixed income", "I’ll give you… 250 for a $450.00 pc" and act like I must be desperate for the sale like some slimeball used car salesman who needs to meet his quota or be fired by end of day. I love what I do.. but the people just make it insufferable most of the time.

Guestyou could just drop in mesa’s llvm softpipe (software renderer)
while it obviously has high cpu usage and low performance next to even the weakest gpus, it is something, and on a good computer good enough for simple/old programs -

GuestVMWare Workstation Player. Have a friend that had to use Japanese XP and use it because of the 3D acceleration versus VirtualBox.

GuestYup I have it installed under virtualbox and run it fairly often to play older games.
I dont get on many sites either so those are still fairly supported with mypal browser (fuck palemoon devs) so its still useable for me.
So I spend a decent amount of time in it playing games and reading this site and a few others. -

GuestI still use Windows XP Pro SP2 64bit to used for internet and LULZ only. Updated my old 4GB to 16GB DDR3 1866 of memory for dirt cheap from Ebay less then $25.00. My computer run on 4 core AMD-R8 5500B 3.2Ghz. apu chip which run very low watt and very low sound from the fan. Did you know you can still activated new Windows XP OEM or Retail key that never been used that i what i did few month back on my old new updated computer so what i did was call the 1 800 number from Microsoft and it was so easy to do. Living like King in 2021 on Windows XP with No Update, no crashing, no bot, and the best part i have freedom of used in Windows XP with No Bullshit.

GuestI do. I have a Dell Latitude D630 that I use for legacy software needs as well as just nostalgia. I kind of want to put Windows 2000 on it, but I think I’m just going to stick with XP.

GuestWindows XP come with Interix subsystem and Windows Services for UNIX which implement POSIX.
I wonder if it is possible to compile WINE in that environment to run Windows 7 and Windows 10 software in a wineprefix on top of Windows XP.
I know attempts to compile WINE with MinGW always failed but maybe is a better approach than kernel extensions -

GuestNo uac
Someone with mimikatz could extract and crack your password in a day since LM hashes are still a thing in xp
A gorillion unpatched entrypoints to kernelspaceIt is really insecure but people keep parroting this without knowing your specific cirumstances. If you know what you are doing you can potentially get away with running xp. Its just dumb.

point being, you can run and help speed up the development of this operating system all the while learning about OS programming.
I’d never run it as a day to day OS, it isn’t ready for that and buddy said so aswell. that is the goal however.
https://serenityos.org/
https://github.com/SerenityOS/serenityI was thinking about building a portage like package manager for it myself. one of the main turn on’s of gentoo is portage for me atleast. pretty sure he’s manually compiling packages anyway to build his apps.
I have alot of respect for this guy hes got me interested in something compsci that doesnt relate to meme languages or networking which is batshit boring to me. great youtube channel too, alot to learn.

GuestI still use Windows XP and it’s still good. I love Windows 2000 though, and I think it is better than XP. The way I think no matter how you use Pro or Home editions, I still think it’s mostly for those users who use it for home computing.
My laptop is still running Windows 7 and I have another computer that is running Windows 10 and I am thinking about upgrading it to Windows 11.
