idk why playing zoomer games is integral to my job?

While I agree with the principle, sounds like you sperged out and acted like a scrotebrain, alienating your co-workers unnecessarily

I don’t care if I sound "rude" or like a sperg to them, I don’t want to waste my time doing this when I can either be working or spending time with my family or doing literally anything else.

I’m financially secure, I do this job because I’m good at it and its quite easy working remote in my free time, but this sort of nonsense seems really common with a lot of new startups.

Sounds like you’re in trouble for telling gamers, GAMERS to "Grow up" and the fact you didn’t want to play a video game has nothing to do with anything.

          I only use Linux
most people at my work use Mac and are dimwits

Amazing how you’re too incompetent to install a game fully supported on Linux on Linux.

Agreed. OP should have politely declined, and said that they have other pressing family matters to attend to, ex: "I have to help take care of my single older Mom" etc. No one at work will EVER know about your personal situation. Just lie your way out of it. Had a coworker try to ask for a Steam account, but told him that I usually skill build for my career after work, and just want to move my career forward these days because time is too precious for games. Simply told him if I’m TRULY bored, then I will play games but that’s rare for me these days as there’s always something new to learn.

In a fair world you did the right thing. People need to be told to fuck off when suggesting dumb shit. You just know the dumb bitch only suggested Among Us because she saw AOC play it once. If you could have your time again you should have reported her to HR citing the game contains depictions of violence which could trigger PTSD or some shit. Also just subtly draw the link to the rule 34 of the characters as a dogwhistle for pornography in your write up.

          >told the woman organizing it to grow up
While it seems like your frustration was merited, people who sit around playing video games all day are especially sensitive to this phrase. I think it basically has to do with the fact that most "gamers" know that what they’re doing is an unproductive waste of time, yet aren’t able to consciously admit this. Deep down they that playing video games is a childish behavior, but refuse to acknowledge it: since acknowledging that they spend a lot of their time doing childish things would mean acknowledging that they’re essentially still children.

I have nothing against video games, I even play them myself occasionally. But I can’t freaking stand adults who try to actively pass video-games off as some kind of "mature pastime for mature people such as myself". It’s so unbelievably pathetic.

Depends. Honestly, I’ve realized the open world-esque games like The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, etc, have taught me more about decisions and life in general. I’ve found when I came back to them years later that they had a total impact on me, in terms of reinstating that I could make any decision I want in life.

These types of decision type games are good imo. The rest are pretty much a waste of time so I will agree with you on this. Its literally a thing you would do if you’re absolutely bored and not skill building on your career or something.

I’m not trying to disparage all games, they can obviously have their benefits in cognitive ability/decision making ability/etc etc. I wasn’t trying to shit on gaming as a hobby either, I’m just fed up with people trying to pass it off as some sort of adult thing when it obviously isn’t. The type of person who actually gets upset if you call gaming childish is exactly the kind of person who behaves like a child in other areas of their life too. A more mature response would be just
              >Yeah, sure. Gaming is childish but I enjoy childish things sometimes. I don’t base my entire personality on it.

“Critics who treat ‘adult’ as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” C.S Lewis

things that never happened for 200

Y’all need to understand that as the older generation retires, going out to the sports bar to drink isn’t really considered a fun social team building event. Instead, you will need to play Among Us, Smash Bros, Animal Crossing, League of Legends or Fortnite to name a few. Remember, there were plenty of Boomers that all they wanted to do was go to work then go home and play Microsoft Flight Sim but they went out to the bar to not be suspect.

I feel for you, OP. My last job I got pulled into this meeting, lawyers present, a CSO, head of the company, and some volunteer from a women’s shelter because I jokingly told a coworker that if my wife didn’t let me cum in her I’d hit her.
