Ain’t gonna be that bad though. I’d die in a plane crash before a storm bad enough to actually disable infrastructure like that hits in my lifetime as far as chances go.-

Thing why all aviation/space shit worries about EMP is because stuff can’t have even a second of downtime

GuestPeople see movies and that’s all they know. EM strong enough to fry something like a tablet or even a car would also fry your brain and body.
It’s much easier to fry long stretches of wire that go for hundreds of miles, like power grids, decouple lines and unplug everything from each other and it will be fine.-
September 29, 2021 at 5:12 pm #107319
Anonymous
Guestwe would get at least 12 hours to unplug as many transformers/critical infrastructure as possible
then there’s the issue of all the other wires that will start fires. if it hits during wildfire season you can kiss california goodbye there won’t be a single patch of forest not on fire anywhere with power lines and dry timber
satellites are most certainly bonked in a Carrington level event, so bye bye gps and good luck getting food shipped in if you live in a port city, most people will die of starvation or fighting over food
in my country I think we will be alright, low population density and we produce a lot of our own food. government will probably send army to secure farmland/distribution networks and enforce rationing
CME is imo the most likely of the prepperscrote’s doomsday scenarios since it actually happened just 200 years ago and seems to happen about every 200-300 years. like others have said, we barely missed on in 2012

GuestHere in Texas when it suddenly froze over and the power went out, it only took like 2 days before scrotes started killing each other over food. Some scrotebrains also died of Carbon Monoxide poisoning trying to cook food. It’s awesome to know that stupid people and scrotes purge themselves when things shut down.

GuestYes it just does not make sense that a piece of electronic hardware sitting in a closet and not connected to anything would be affected in any way whatsoever. Seems like the amount of electromagnetic radiation strong enough to physically damage them in unpowered state would have to be strong enough to kill people.

GuestI wonder how that would affect ntp services such as pool.ntp.org or time.cloudflare.com which rely on DNS round robin for distributing IP addresses of useable ntp servers. If large portions of the internet become disconnected from each other, it would effectively make such services unreachable. At least for the pool.ntp.org project, there exists only one server responding to DNS queries. In the event pool.ntp.org becomes unusable it would leave many devices unable to do basic tasks (can’t do SSL/TLS without an somewhat accurate clock). Many RTC devices are also subject to about ~6 seconds drift per month.
Stratum 2/3 servers might also be unable to reach their respective upstream servers (stratum 1/2) exposing them to clock drift and leading to their eventual removal putting more and more strain on whatever servers are left in the pool.

-
September 29, 2021 at 2:38 pm #107264

GuestThat’s not true for undersea fibre and copper cables, repeaters will be present along the cable every few kilometres to prevent signal degradation however their electrical input might have little in the way of surge protection. Such magnetic storms and flares will induce large currents in very long conductors.

GuestThis is part of the plan. Cataclysmic change has been underway for the past 15 years. The messianic era is nigh. The collapse of civilization will bring new nations from the ashes. Ethnically homogeneous states are inevitable. Constitutional monarchies will be the system of the future, where you have an elected legislative branch and a monarchy for the executive branch. A real King with real power. Barron Trump will be the first monarch of the Kingdom of Florida. The world will run on crypto currency, but not bitcoin. It will be the coin of an L1 smart contract chain.
A new church will be made, rejecting many of the teaching of modern christianity. Priests will need to be married as a prerequisite. Celibate people will be excommunicated.
Schools will end the current general education system and, instead, teach life skills with military style discipline. Practical philosophy, physical fitness. Men will be taught competence, self discipline, and mental strength. Women will be taught how to nurture, and the more cunning of social arts for benevolent purposes, an emotional boon to temper the stark difficulties of life that the men must bear. All specializations will be self taught or in specific schools. A school of computer programming, a school of engineering, etc. The study of humanities will be a luxury for women and wealthy men. It will be looked down upon for a young person to study an impractical field in their youth.
I could tell you more, but you know most of these things already, or at least have the capacity to know them.

GuestDifficulty would plummet to adjust for the only 2 people left mining. For one glorious day they will be able to mine blocks with their PC. And then boom, the first mining farm to come back online will have so much hashrate disparity, they will be able to 50% attack with abandon. Practically they would be killing their own golden goose however.
A state actor on the other hand, someone who doesn’t care about the network could wipe it out by moving the genesis blocks.
