Code of Conduct

What is the purpose of Code of Conduct? Did anybody read it? How many violations per week/month/yeah do you notice? How did we get by before it existed? Is it reminiscent of 'Employees must wash the hands before returning to work' thing?

There wouldn't be any need for CoCs if people could not be dicks to each other, but that's not the case and there are CoCs because of that.

does this prevent management backstabbing or gaslighting employees?

It should prevent management bs as well.
        Idk wtf is gaslighting.

how many dicks are there by your count? can you be more specific?

Ask your mom, she's the accountant.

          >Ask your mom
          is that a CoC violation?

You'd know if you took the time to read CoC.

Nobody reads the code of conduct. It doesn't need to be there at all. Its not going to stop people from being dicks to each other.

Correct, a CoC can't stop dicks by itself. The community moderators who interpret the CoC and ban the dicks are who stop people from being dicks to each other.

A Code of Conduct supplies a reference to which conduct can be measured and judged.
Without a Code of Conduct, hypocrisy based on prejudice tends to rule. You may have a "Golden Child" around whom all rules are bent, and the "designated whipping boy" for whom even great performance get turned around into an attack.

    Response to "Golden Child":
    >Oh, you got the project done late? Wow, it must have been so difficult! You're so wonderful to have kept plugging away at it until the end!

    Designated whipping boy:
    >You got the project done early? DON'T YOU SEE HOW THIS SCREWS UP OUR SCHEDULE? Now we have to reassign people who aren't finished with their own projects. Also, if you could finish this early, does this mean you were sandbagging on all the projects you merely got in on time? And, tell me, why didn't you finish this faster?

A Code of Conduct serves as a second, objective point to use as a lever against blindly one-sided argumentation.

It's an unintended side effect of the success of FOSS.
Corpos have become highly invested in FOSS for various reasons, the main one being "if you can't beat em, join em", which has led to the influx of a lot of people who are accustomed to having a human resources department to tattle to when someone does or says something they don't like. CoCs are an attempt to force sterile HR office culture onto online communities, and are enforced by the kind of middle-management personality who gets off on pushing other people around without them being able to push back.
Trannies are not the root cause of this so much as they are a sort of Trojan horse for it. Nobody wants to say no to them, either out of liberal guilt or out of fear. Usually fear.

      >Corpos have become highly invested in FOSS for various reasons
They were always invested in FOSS, from the beginning. FOSS is actually much more beneficial to corpos than it is to individuals. Reality is more like FOSS is the trojan horse, to get gullible programmers to give away their work for free so companies can profit from it.

      >CoCs are an attempt to force sterile HR office culture onto online communities
This is completely backwards. Reality is more like the anti-CoC reactionaries are an attempt to force annoying IQfy shitpost culture into all online communities.

      >Nobody wants to say no to them, either out of liberal guilt or out of fear.
This is also completely backwards. No one fears anyone or has guilt. When you participate in a group project, these are your colleagues. You either respect them or you don't participate.

        >FOSS is actually much more beneficial to corpos than it is to individuals.
So is literally everything else that has ever been financially viable in the last 400 years. Meaningless statement.
        >Reality is more like FOSS is the trojan horse, to get gullible programmers to give away their work for free so companies can profit from it.
FOSS saved the software industry from itself. Try again.
        >This is completely backwards. Reality is more like the anti-CoC reactionaries are an attempt to force annoying IQfy shitpost culture into all online communities.
Bullshit. HR-mentality people will throw a fit over the most banal things.
        >This is also completely backwards. No one fears anyone or has guilt. When you participate in a group project, these are your colleagues. You either respect them or you don't participate.
Trannies and women ask for an inch, but they take a mile.

          >So is literally everything else that has ever been financially viable in the last 400 years.
But they had to pay for it. With FOSS you do it for free™.

FOSS doesn't help the end user at all because. as non-programmers, they benefit zero from "freedom." They instead gain massive value from having paid programmers as wage slaves looking to suck their wieners for a minimal fee per user.

What FOSS does do is benefit closed corporations, since they do not have to pay a large internal development team, but can just take unfinished, hobbyist work and modify it. And they don't even have to release it.
The only thing they can't do with it is make a saleable proprietary product for end-users from it.
Instead of paying six-figure salaries, they get to throw a few thousand at freetards who are desperate for the barest hint of any meaningful recognition since their philosophy does not allow them to demand it based on the value of their work.

          >ask for an inch, but they take a mile
seems like most programmers would benefit from knowing about a concept known as shit test. their ignorance about this matter seems subversive at the moment
