CLOTT ADAMS BTFO

>The popular “Dilbert” comic strip that parodies the trials and tribulations of office life is being pulled by nearly 80 publications where it regularly appeared, according to its author.

>“Dilbert was cancelled in 77 newspapers this week,” cartoonist Scott Adams tweeted Tuesday.

Don't bullshit about the reason his comics was removed. It has nothing to do with being political.

The reason his comic will no longer be published is because it's part of a vast downsizing by Lee Enterprises Inc. that own those 77 newspapers. Only 10 comics strips will remain in the paper:
        -Garfield
        -Peanuts
        -Baby Blues
        -The Argyle Sweater
        -Close to Home
        -Pickles
        -For Better or For Worse
        -Crabgrass
        -Pearl Before Swine
        -Luann

Every other comic that used to be published in those 77 newspapers are getting the boot, including Dilbert. The reason is money, or rather, stupid business decision, not some sort of liberal cancellation.

I honestly glance at Dilbert for about 5 seconds each week in the Saturday funnies, sometimes deriving a sensible chuckle from it.
Lately though it seems like he's just having Dilbert get into pastiches of the conversations he has with people on Twitter.
He had such massive reach that he could've used for so much good, if he was clever about it. Have Dilbert's company get into bio-weapons manufacture, then roll it into a health supplement program or something.

This is basically one of the final omens of the death of Newspapers as a medium. National ones like USA Today will probably still exist, however they've also existed as websites a long time. Local papers have already lost their future subscriber base to Twitter.

Peanuts is bland but dares to be brutally honest about life. Garfield is a disgruntled office worker played by a house cat, so tons of newspaper readers relate to him. Calvin and Hobbes was interesting sometimes but too often sour to a fault. I'm not surprised it is a relic of the past.

You misread Peanuts entirely. Charles Schultz was a WW2 vet. Everything he did oozed WW2 honorable intent to be a peacekeeper. I'm sure he never meant to be brutal or bland in the slightest. He was more like a field medic who created a little pain to decrease the later suffering.

Garfield even outlived Garfield. Jim Davis released Garfield Minus Garfield, a pretty funny book of Jon ranting about bullshit and turning into a NEET. It’s literally Garfield strips with Garfield erased.

          >Garfield will outlive humanity, it is going to be on print after we have nuked our species out of existence.

          >Can it live forever? Will it live forever outside of these physical husks of ours... our bodies? And Jon Arbuckle and Garfield started nearly as thoughts, and they've become so much more. That old cliche rings true, they've taken on a life of their own. And life may not be what you think, fife brings to mind, a beating heart, breathing lungs, blinking eyes... but the real life is our imaginations, and who better embodies the definition of imagination if not a simple man, a cartoonist who puts his ideas to paper, so they may live on in our children, and our children's children, and their children's children's children can access the wealth of ideas that have accumulated thus far?

          >They will plug themselves into an information grid and they will have access. They will read every Garfield comic. 80,000 years from now a child will see simple Jon Arbuckle, reading a newspaper. He will feel around for something but that something is not there, he will lift his head and think, "Now where could my pipe be?" And Garfield will be smoking the pipe, and Jon will yell "Garfield!" and what then? 80,000 years from now? The child reading this comic will smile. And that smile will transcend space and time, and the physical limitations of this existence whatever it may be, however many dimensions exist, there will always be Garfield. And there will always be its creator, Jim Davis.

This "it's not political!!!" shit worked on LULZ because everyone on LULZ is left-leaning and doesn't care about anything bigger picture. 2/10 of those strips left barely scrape the normie political surface, the rest are white noise and pretty much always have been. Isn't argyle sweater the one that's a literal ripoff of Far Side with no soul? Half of these are a waste of a slot to begin with, but at least they got rid of other comics I was well past done with like Family Circus and BC. The sunday funnies were on life support for a long time, so this only means newspapers are dying faster than the funnies are. If THAT doesn't have political implications, then nothing will.

So as with everyone else: take from him what is useful and ignore the rest.

Its weird seeing how Americans are demolishing the few cultural products that are worth something and replacing it with a void.
When i see Americans in /misc/ I see people without a culture anymore even hispanics retain european cultural traditions, but the Americans are like drones with guns, their culture is dictated by what corporations deem profitable at a certain time.
Dilbert might not have been the best cultural expression but it was one of the Icons of American culture that was liked world-wide.

It’s not weird when you realize it’s israelites behind the scenes doing everything. Once you realize that, everything makes sense

It makes sense because it's a simple explanation for simple people. Also it excuses "white culture" or American culture being a race to the bottom via aggressive mass marketing brought to you by Raegan era capitalism. And I love capitalism, don't get me wrong, I'm just saying it could run better and for all the good it does, there are drawbacks. Still, I'd rather be fat with cheap and available fast food than starving in a field in Africa.

He knew he was on the way out

Don't bullshit about the reason his comics was removed. It has nothing to do with being political.

The reason his comic will no longer be published is because it's part of a vast downsizing by Lee Enterprises Inc. that own those 77 newspapers. Only 10 comics strips will remain in the paper:
        -Garfield
        -Peanuts
        -Baby Blues
        -The Argyle Sweater
        -Close to Home
        -Pickles
        -For Better or For Worse
        -Crabgrass
        -Pearl Before Swine
        -Luann

Every other comic that used to be published in those 77 newspapers are getting the boot, including Dilbert. The reason is money, or rather, stupid business decision, not some sort of liberal cancellation.

His rationale is that he can move the overton window because 'shitting on ESG is in Dilbert' means that ESG is now fair game. I think he may have a point. Ofc that works less well when you're getting cancelled, but there's a certain time frame where he can actually be effective.

ESG is roughly equivalent to having your boss demand that you vote for his candidate or face losing your job. It's the same as cancel culture but uses a new bureaucracy to hide behind.

Calling me a bot is a very bot thing to say. I can't help it if you're not reading up on the topic.

Okay. For some reason we talked past each other. From what I got, you were initially arguing that there's little sense to drawing ESG-critical news paper comics. I tend to agree, but still find Adams' approach somewhat honorable: he uses the (debatable) influence he has on what is and isn't considered good practice in corporate america to shun company executives away from caring about ESG. Then you repeated some half sentences about multinationals and explained to me what ESG is. See what I mean?

Just idle speculation on my part. The full point would be that maybe kids tend to forget the last step or two in a conversation and are quick to make a personal attack.

In truth, the poster speculated that news papers seem to defend ESG and I made the vague connection that it's multi-nationals, not newspapers. Newspapers are still dependent on banks and THEY tend to be the real political secret police. ESG should be considered unconstitutional.

oh they certainly do. anyone who needs venture capital in order to grow or survive rely on ESG-contaminated nonsense; yeah

no it's perfectly constitutional. the trouble is that the right hasn't come up with some sort of society-reshaping standard of their own. until that happens, the cycle continues; and small to mid-cap businesses fall into this trap while still in their economic infancy. same shit happened with schools: they arbitrarily set a political filter on people pursuing anything post-bac, and surprise surprise something like 90% of teachers are leftists of various stripes. i believe they called it "the long march through the institutions," and now it's happening with businesses directly

He's just another clueless bunny who doesn't accept that money makes money. He kind of had an edge in the 90's when he still was new to it but as a celebrity, he just became a cliquey nerd maintaining his cult of personality until the Internet demonstrated his addiction to celebrity status.

He can't be salvaged and daily demonstrates that he doesn't really want to be salvaged as he breaks off on his subject matter to invoke asshat justice on the commenters who he really should just not allow if he has any hope of staying on message.

He claims to want feedback but it's obvious that the feedback he wants isn't the kind which is above the table and gets petulant when he doesn't get the results he expected. Sadly, he really hasn't had another comic strip artist come along to take his attention away. He's the last of of the newspaper comic artists, I'd say. He could reinvent himself as a humble nerd but I'd doubt that he's going to do anything other than take a long, ugly fall, like the Michael Jackson of nerd chic.

Rock and movie stars are the curse of boomer culture.

yeah I feel he is going that direction. He recently said that he saw his death, like, how he is going to die. When someone says that it is never a good sign. He started sounding very lonely. He is starting to miss his ex despite his boomer ways is my guess.

Cue the stepson thing. I'd guess he's just really lonely. It's hard not to talk shit about this fact given how much he brags with his 'hypnosis superpowers'

Fuck you, you stupid cunt. You are a piece of fucking shit. Do not tell people what they think and insult them in public. Your can tell me what you fucking think you small-minded piece of crap. But don’t tell me what I think and then insult me in public when you’re fucking wrong… You got your facts wrong: you got your timing wrong; you got your thinking wrong; and you’re a fucking piece of shit. You should not live in a world with other nice people. Because I have a feeling you’re just as much of a piece of shit when you go home. I bet your family hates your fucking guts behind your back. I guarantee it, with that kind an attitude. The fact that you can come after me with your fucking imaginary problems, put them in my head, and then blame them for me, means that your family is probably getting the same treatment. I feel sorry for your husband. I hope your husband is watching, because he’s agreeing with me right; he’s nodding with me. Yes, you are an imaginary, shit stirring. Probably a narcissist, piece of shit. That’s what I think of you.

did garrison actually make this? also- this is sort of a technicality, but scott got 2 shots. didn't get the booster. explained that it was the right move *for him* but might not be for everybody. he made that painfully clear, and he made fun of people--both the people saying that the vaccines would certainly save lives AND the people who believed that vaccines would end lives prematurely. he did the math on the booster, and decided it wasn't for him. regarding everything he said on the masks, he frequently fell back on a refrain that "friction works." he's right. maybe not a major difference in "slowing the spread," but friction certainly applies and works in that scenario. he's been caricatured nonstop by people on the left and the right who pretty obviously have no capacity for nuance or critical thought
