Catch Can Oil

What do I do with my Catch Can oil?

Dump it? Recycle it back into the crank case? Drink it? Rub it on my shirtless nipples while singing "I'm a little Tea Pot" at the top of my lungs?

Can I dump it back into the crankcase though? Will it hurt the engine? Oil has a filter so contaminates will just get filtered out (again)

Mine is always like 95% water, so I just dump it.

          That's fine.

I should have specified, my catch can had oil and ONLY oil in it. If it was water/oil mix/milkshake I would have tossed it immediately without second thought

I dump all my oil down this hole I found on my land with a pipe in it, but I think it's a government spy port because shortly after I started my drinking water got all gross and not drinkable. I won't lose against the feds even if they try poisoning me though.

Recycle it. Oil comes out of the ground, so you need to put it back into the ground so it can be harvested again in the future.

There have been several people that have given legit answers....gravel and sand if it's far enough from your well (if you're not on municipal" or take it to fricking autozone like you would with any other oil.

You're getting serious answers. Take it to a recycling center or dump it in the ground.
      >muh pollution
Bubblin' crude used to come up from the ground all the time before everyone started pumping it out. It isn't like you're polluting. Just keep it away from your water source and it'll be fine.

Just don't do ghetto shit and dump it in the gutter.

      okay but what about

Can I dump it back into the crankcase though? Will it hurt the engine? Oil has a filter so contaminates will just get filtered out (again)

? I haven't done my oil change yet, I only serviced my Catch Can because I was curious. I dumped it back into the crankcase because I have like 3k left on this oil change interval. Will I be fine?

Also, what about synthetic oil. That's not crude. I haven't used Dino stuff in 10 years. Why would I "return it to the ground"?

        Anonymous

You should be fine dumping it back into the crankcase, just drain your catch can the next time you do an oil change.

Synthetic oil is still oil, and yeah, it isn't crude oil but basically just a refined and cleaned crude oil product. Save yourself a trip down to the recyclers, they're just going to sell it to fuel oil companies and burn it to power container ships. Either way it ends up in the ground or in the air.

          >will it be fine
Yes, it's not extra polluted or anything, and if you're using synthetic and have 3,000 miles left it should be relatively clean anyway.
          >Why return it

Okay anons you guys have been helpful thank you for answering my questions and alleviating my concerns you guys are great 🙂
The oil was pretty dark but that might be because I haven't serviced the can in maybe 2 oil change intervals. It seemed to leave a kinda sludgey layer on the bottom after the liquid oil got dumped so I may clean the can completely with some diesel or gas sometime...
And no, I am not a recycling-obsessed, tree-hugging, pollution-minded /n/igger, so the tips on being able to dump my oil in the backyard were also helpful

I just did the oilpan gasket maybe 2k miles ago. I had a small weep of oil at the rear near the transmission bellhousing. Needless to say, my oilpan looked brand new by the time I reinstalled it. The rest of the engine was fairly bronzed from years of oil; I didn't clean it. There is only so much you can do with the engine still in the car and without cracking it open. Best believe I felt like I king with a shiny "new" oilpan free of all sludge though

No, the PCV system is not bypassed, it would be moronic doing so. The catch can is routed inline with the factory PCV system and is strictly there to catch oil vapors before they are sent back into the intake system

Catchcans are a godsend on a high mileage engine with lots of blowby.

        Anonymous

the only people who think this are people who haven't yet run a catch can long enough on a high mileage turbo DI engine to be able to verify its desired effects. i assume you do it to attempt to reduce carbon buildup on your valves? clean your valves, run a catch can for 50k miles, and check them again. guess what, you will still have to clean them. except now you also wasted money on the catch can and all that time and energy managing the fluid it accumulated. if you really want to reduce carbon buildup, do this

actually do run meth though, as that's the only thing that will actually proactively clean your intake valves. be sure to inject post-intercooler too for maximum atomization, none of that throttle body spacer bullshit.

if you're not tuning for it and are just using it to clean valves and slightly lower IATs, you can run like a 75/25 water/meth mix with small nozzles for a fairly light spray. i usually turn mine down in the winter and only have to add maybe a gallon every 3 or 4 gas tank fillups. can also just use low temp windshield washer fluid from the gas station as that's literally just water/meth with some harmless dyes. the lower the temp the higher the meth content. you can even hook up your meth pump line to your existing washer fluid reservoir to use the same fluid and fill point for both.

        ask me how i know.

          Anonymous

No personally I run it to reduce the carbon build on my spark plugs and it works.

            Anonymous

your car is probably running too rich, oil fouling on plugs is generally wet. are you tuned? bad thermostat? did you replace your DV with an aftermarket BOV?

            Anonymous

No it's just old and abused with lots of blowby which caused a lot of oil to end up in the combustion chamber, catching some of it in a can helped.

The aluminum charge pipe I bought to replace my plastic OEM one has 2 meth bungs opposite eachother closer to the intercooler. It's not directly after the Intercooler but it's not immediately before the throttle body either, kinda like in between?
Not sure if I want the hassle of the extra fillup/service for fluids though. My chargepipe does have the provisions though if so ever do go that route

You can make molotovs with it, used pil is actually better than brand new oil. You mix half gas half motor oil and you leave lime 1/4 of the bottle empty to let space for gas fumes. You seal the bottle tightly and tape a tampom soaked in oil to ignite it.
