Car prices are unsustainable

I lost my car in the hurricane last year and have to give my loaner back in a couple weeks.

Since Google knows everything I got a push ad the other day for a used truck, same make, model and trim level as the one I bought my wife in 2019. It has about the same mileage, but the weakest possible engine and zero options. The price was $5k more than I paid new with double the interest rate.

Rich? Only a few were rich. They proceeded to plunder the industrial base by selling it to China for short term profits. We're a consumer based economy now where all we do is sell each other slop and slave for the few rich left.

I got a new vw jetta se for like $287 a month no interest with like 6k down during covid lockdown. It was hard to sell a car because no test drives and dealership appointments. I had just had my 2019 stolen and totaled so I knew I liked it. I know they got bad reps but it's very comfy nice car. Test drove a civic and couldn't fit in it. I'll total it or ot will be stolen again the moment It has engine or transmission problems. 😉

Internal combustion engines will be illegal in a few years. What’s the plan for when that happens? Brew your own gasoline?

Ethanol stills are pretty rudimentary, so that isn't unreasonable

Won't be illegal, just illegal to sell new ones. There will still be gas and ICE cars on the road. If anything you will see cars with OBD1 and older being taken off the road.

Within 2 months of the car being out of manufacture warranty the tranny took a shit, been in and out of the shop with multiple rentals, all covered by extended warranty. I paid 5k for the extended warranty, they have paid out over 17k in repairs. I can't believe they haven't canceled me yet.

I had one, it was great on gas, but eventually i had to replace a steering column because immobilizer failed. Also North American fords are not the same as euro fords.

      >repair an old one
Lots of different replacement parts are hard to get and/or expensive now. Certain parts you can't get at all, even for 4 year old vehicles. That and the quality of replacement parts has drastically nose dived.

I live in NYC and make way more than that. I don't have a car anymore and can't imagine wanting one again. The closest I have now is a Vespa at my house out on the island. I had so much fun getting a motorcycle license so I can use it. It was such a hoot.

Anon if you want get cheap car with low 70K mileage with 305hp V6 that get 32mpg on highway and that car is Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 on Craigslist which i am selling right now for good price. Never had any problem with the car at all. I just need to sell it to buy a new small 4x4 truck for camping. You don't need to make $100,000 a year to buy used car in great shape. Stop buying New CAR buy used car with low mileage like a Honda or Hyundai and you will never have a problem for years to come.

A $25k car with 20% down requires an $80k income for a 25% debt to income ratio. This is not an ideal situation for anyone using our current credit model. We are a debt based economy any upward mobility is limited by ones solvency

If you want to live like a normal middle class person does on TV, you really need to be making $300,000 to $400,000 a year, especially if you live in a metropolitan area.

It's been like this in Australia for the better part of a decade. I don't know what people do for a living but driving around in an 80k car that should be worth 30k appears to be commonplace.

probably financed, people in debt up to the gills.

Definitely financed. I'm not sure how the fuck people survive, my father has been taking out credit cards left and right, took a loan and can barely make even. He had to buy a new car because his current one is basically totaled, and he had it financed at 9%, can't remember how many years but he'd eventually pay close to double the value. The only reason i'm even floating is because my girl and i work, else we'd be sleeping in the car

Yep I want a car to ping israel every 3 seconds when I am driving, don't forget when you say wrong thonk that the A.I in the car will disable your car permanently also you need to pay for 3 monthly subscriptions for your car such as more capacity in your gas tank, mapping, and rent, that's right you don't own your vehicle, also you still have to pay insurance.
