At least for us, it's the generational gap, we won the WC a decade ago, I know that's 10 years already, most NTs have some experienced players and a bunch of youngsters, imagine let's say Mbappe, Halaand or whatever zoomer in our 2010 NT, nowadays they'd be very experienced 32 y/o leaders, a player defining an entire generation of football, but the reality is, in our 2010 NT we had players who currently are professional big team COACHES (Xavi, Xabi), old fat white haired baldies (Iniesta), club staff members (Puyol, Casillas), ex-players who are constantly injured or clubbing (Ramos, Piqué)... Our team consisted of a bunch of 30+ y/o, they were old as shit, this resulted in a very weak team after 2012 where non-experienced idiots had to put themselves in the shoes of such legendary players and without any kind of help, now we're playing with young players who are learning experience the hard way, playing official matches, now if something good comes out of this generation, add a bunch of current sub 18 canteranos and Spain might have a winning NT soon, 2008 was the same shit, there was a lot of group building behind and letting go sacred cows and such

Well Hatzipanagis could have reached near Maradona/Messi tier, especially if he had been trained by a major foreign club of his time. He was great and his style of play was very close to theirs. Shame what happened to him.

        Anonymous

Greece didn't "produce" him though. He was born and grew up in Soviet Russia and that's where he learned football. In Greece he'd have spend his time stealing bags with his also stolen motorcycle and probably playing some small acting role in movies like Kleftroni and Gentleman and Sapia Vida.

Greece lacks both culture and infrastructure that is needed to produce great footballers.

When did Greece ever produce a world class player?

  13. 3 weeks ago
    Anonymous

Greece has never produced "world class" players. Fucking Tsimikas has the most successful career compared to past "greats" on a club level and is only surpassed by the guys who won the Euro 2004 using black magic.
Tsimikas being the most successful says a lot, because he is a fucking bench warmer.
Greece never had football world class players, the best of the best was only "average", "a little better than mediocre", "hmm has potential to be good???" etc.
Now this thread would make perfect sense if we were talking about Basketball. We have produced tons of truly world class players in Basketball since 1980, but we have fallen off in the last 5-6 years. Antentokounmpo doesn't count.

So yeah, I don't even know why we're on OP's pic. Winning Euro 2004 with the absolute shitters we had on that team is a fucking miracle. The only thing they had for them was "hard workers". Imagine your top scorer being fucking Charisteas, infamous in Greece for being utter shit at football. Can't dribble, can't really run fast, can't shoot, can't pass, but he scored like 5 headers in that Euro 2004 and he became a legend. Life is fucking strange.

Sporting CP has similar colors and kits (kinda) to Panathinaikos so if you like that, go with PAO FC.
If you want a smaller team then Aris is pure SOVL.
If you want soulless and your team to never lose then Olympiacos.
If you want soulless but shit, then PAOK.
