I'm a Uni student too and I'm pretty sure I have ADHD. Just looking at the way I acted as a kid points to ADHD. Anyway I can't take more than one hard course a semester otherwise I end up burning out. I just bombed a midterm today and I'm probably going to drop the course. To cope with that I chugged some vodka a while ago and I'm listening to music. I don't want to get diagnosed with ADHD because I feel like I'll get addicted to the medication and abuse it.

      Anonymous

I don't think you'll get addicted. If you have ADHD the medication affects you differently than if you were neurotypical.

I am currently on 10 mg of Adderall and it only mildly affects me. I think I need more. I just want to be mentally normal but so far the meds are not really all that effective.

I don't think I have ADHD but what do you wanna talk about?

            >I want to talk about my meds. I want to know why they are not working so well.
ADHD meds will give you the ability to be productive. But it won't give you the motivation to be productive. The meds can only help you to do things which you actually motivated to do. So if you hate school and don't want to be there the meds will not actually help that much. It will however help you immensely to concentrate when you actually are motivated.

I have no idea. Maybe you are simply depressed? Losing motivation to do anything is a classic sign of depression. ADHD however is strictly a focus and attention thing. You can have both though absolutely. But the low motivation is not ADHD

I am almost certain that I am not depressed. ADHD also causes executive dysfunction. I have that and a really bad case of it!

XR blows fr, ask for the ir and double your dose at next apointment

So her mom basically rules her whole life and plans out absolutely everything. I don't think this is a good solution though. But I wouldn't know how to manage it another way.

My mom used to rule my life but I was alone in uni and ended up gaining weight, living in filth, and just completely failing at life. I want to be normal.

Half the world has ADHD by the current standards. We've just not evolved to deal with that level of civilization. Don't turn your ilness into an excuse, rather shape your life so your faults don't matter and your virtues and talents are fully used. I used to need medication to be functional. Without it I was unable to concentrate on absolutely anything which was not immediately fun to do. I would have flunked all of school without it. But I eventually learned to make do without it. What I did was I observed my own behavior when I was on or off the medication. Then I tried going without but making a real effort to "pretend" that I was on medication. It felt like when you are drunk and are pretending to be sober. But I did it. I learned to act medicated off the meds and only took them on the day of an exam, then I learned to do exams without the meds too. I wouldn't say I'm cured and if I'm not making a real effort I revert back to being a useless sack of meat. This is my experience however. I did it because the meds made life boring and everything grey. Life was happier when they wore off every evening.

Reminder that ADHD is not a genetic disease and is purely as a result of a lack of discipline and self control. You have shit parents and are a shitty person and you use ADHD as a way to try and shift responsibility for you actions away from yourself. Nobody likes studying or having to do stuff they find dull you are not special or a victim.

Unironically read this book, or read a summary of it online at the very least. It changed my life. It teaches you not to act on impulse and plan out your day, week, month, year and life. Making a calender, making personal deadlines. Deciding on times to do stuff and sticking to it.

I got have been diagnosed by israelite doctors with just about everything since I was young. I have been on adderal for ADHD and Concerta. They both are like drugs and did not help me focus on tasks what do ever, they did however make me stim a lot more and felt like crack. The only thing that allows me to concentrate is green tea as other forms of caffeine like coffee and energy drinks give a peak and stagger.

Are you still at campus? I'm a ubcgay, first year engi too. Failed a bunch of classes first year because of sickness, but can't move back with my parents so I'm sticking it out

A large % of students fail. Nothing to be ashamed of.

I did not fail out. They let me take the semester off and finish 1st year next year.

I probably have ADHD, I have shit attention span and constantly check my phone, Google random things etc. I constantly fidget with my legs, every fifteen minutes I get a huge urge to run outside my hall or and move. I'm also in uni and I have second class honors in computer engineering without meds (because they're very hard to get here) with strategies

          Thanks for the info.

Don't worry about it. Just talk to an advisor online about retaking first year, they can help out a ton.
If anyone asks said you had some family/mental problems.
Also, whatever you do, do NOT take ADHD medication. You'll become dependent on that and it's almost impossible to break the addiction
          https://academicservices.engineering.ubc.ca/academic-advising/quick-questions-link/
          They'll be open monday 10-12.
          > I am so ashamed of myself.
Why? Because you failed some first year classes? You're meant to fail on your first year, the ones that don't are the ones that will finish the four year diploma. Just take 5-6 years and enjoy the journey.

I already spoke to them and they let me take this sem off and finish 1st year next year because one of my parents died.

          >If anyone asks said you had some family/mental problems.
I told everyone I left because of a health issue.

what are you whining about then, you have a better life than 90% of this board

Well that's pretty fricked, I'm sorry to hear that. Glad you got the green light from engineering academic services and got that sorted out.
If you ever want some more scenic views, come up to Kelowna sometime. This is definitely not because I'm a lonely shit up here.

For some reason every chick nowadays is being diagnosed with adhd/add. Stop being moronic you're not special smdh humans weren't meant to sit at a desk hours and hours a day dumb b***h this isn't your blog I hate women so God damn much

They fill the youths' minds with unrealistic values and expectations. When most can't meet those expectations and fulfill those values, they get diagnosed with ADHD, austism, depression etc. This girl thinks she has no value as a person because she put on weight and failed a semester at uni.

No shit. She's a dummy and thinks she's unique, or this was bait. Regardless women should not be allowed to vote and have ruined LULZ

society sends of the majority of women in to higher education despite the fact that the average person is moronic. Rather then accept the fact that most people are dumb we invent fake illness like ADHD. OP is literally just a dumb b***h who belongs in a textile mill not a university. Remember your tax money pays for this c**toid to larp as the intelligentsia. Many such cases.

This. the worst part is: she'll have the expectations of the intelligentsia for the rest of her life. She'll expect above average career opportunities and salary and she'll look down on men without hgiher ed. She'll feel especially slighted if they earn more than her because they've learned some real craft society needs.

Yes this is pretty much it. I wouldn't say add/adhd is totally made up, but more of a gross mischaracterization. The problem is that it has become an excuse, then this chick, just like many others, will try to talk about how it's hard to mask their adhd or some other shit to feel special. It's the same as these "autistic" girls on tiktok who are socially conscious and post cute little videos of them "stimming out" by wiggling around like some spaz.

I do blame the medical industry to some degree, but how people latch onto these "disorders" to make them feel special or cope with being a midwit is a special kind of cancer. Who knows, maybe op does have adhd but I think we all know the true answer especially considering OP had to mention she has a coochie

Atomoxetine really helps me. I am not diagnosed but my doctor gave me a prescription for it and it has made everything so much better. It's a miracle drug for me. I feel so much better. It has cured my anxiety and depression almost completely.
