Can you imagine a world where we are free to wear anything that we like from any era without societal judgement?

Can you imagine a world where we are free to wear anything that we like from any era without societal judgement?

It makes me sad to think this may happen in the future but I will not live to see it ;_;

Yeah it’s called not being a hecking pussy.

Bro you seeking some zombie utopia. How about a world in which you can wear what you want without being stoned to death, I think we have achieved that, at least in the West. Welcome the rest of the world to the West and you getting stoned, and I ain’t talking about weed.

      When the judgements are
      >Why are you dressed like a pirate captain?
then you can kind of tell that they’re judging the clothing more than your face.
That’s why I intend to someday design some modern clothing items that take inspiration from the historical articles I like, which are normally too flamboyant for modern acceptability.

For instance, I like 1700s-era "pirate captain" frock coats and Napoleonic naval/military uniforms. However, if I dressed like pic related, I would look silly; people would think I was wearing a costume for some event, or because of mental illness.
However, we can modify this for modern tastes. From top to bottom:
      >Big, feathery hats (or really just any hats at all)
Lose them. Hats are buried nowadays – the only exceptions are really subtle things like baseball or newsboy caps. Anything with a wide brim is seen as eccentric at best, cringe-neckbeard at worst. I see no viable way to update the hats for modern tastes.
      >Long, at least shoulder-length braided/wavy/curly hair
Long hairstyles on men are rarely seen in a flattering capacity these days, beyond rockstars and models who look good with any/no hair at all. However, medium-long hair, something that sits between the jaw and shoulder, well-kept, could easily look good today, as there are many acceptable men’s styles for a variety of hair types at this medium length.
      >Stylish beards, moustaches, facial hair
Luckily these are basically all acceptable today. Something like a muttonchop-moustache might look particularly eccentric to most people today, and may not pass a job interview, but barring strict dress codes, you’d never lose your job for growing that style at work.

        >Gold earrings, hebrewelry
Nope. Maybe just either one subtle gold ring or thin gold chain, but nothing more.
        >Big brass epaulettes
Making these into the more "civilian" buttoned shoulder-straps we are familiar with today would pass just fine.
        >Flamboyant frock coat
Here’s where work needs to be done. The bright colors need to be more muted, preferably either greyscale or earth-tone. The huge number of brass buttons are too much, but the same number of buttons in a more subtle style matching the fabric would work. The big overturned collar, wide lapels, and huge turned-back cuffs can all stay, but all need to be reduced and kept more in-line with a standard jacket/coat silhouette. Pic related showing what I mean about sleeves/shoulders. Coat length also needs to be reduced, preferably to above the knees. Might even be better off as a jacket.
        >Fancy waistcoat
You could instead have a subtle vest matching the coat, or ditch the three-piece option altogether and just go coat + shirt, like many pirate captains did.
        >Ruffled white shirt, ruffled cuffs, ruffled cravat
A standard white button shirt today is literally the evolution of those ruffled white shirts from the 1700s, so it’s a perfect substitute. Either a white buttoned-dress-shirt, tucked-in, for a semi-formal look, or a white buttoned-casual-shirt, untucked, for a more casual look.

          >Sash/cummerbund/huge-belt
Lol no, just a normal belt, subtle/simple buckle, leather color matching shoes.
          >Brass-hilted cutlass or ‘hanger’ sword, flint/percussion pistols
I actually had ideas for more fashionable, modern types of swords/knives/pistols that stil evoke shapes from the 1700s, but let’s not get ourselves arrested.
          >Durable, bunched-up, khaki breeches
Proper-fitting slacks will do well here, in either a khaki, or a darker shade than the coat. If going more casual, some proper-fitting jeans. No shorts or weird modern-breeches.
          >Knee-length turn-cuff brass-buckled leather boots
Men’s long boots really aren’t a normal thing anymore, and definitely won’t pass in an office setting. In fact, most boots worn over the pants will look out of place. Instead, a leather chelsea boot that sits under the pant cuffs would look great for either semi-formal or casual purposes.

Like, yeah, I could just dress like a pirate and not give a heck like the guy

I know a guy who dresses up in 18th century clothing everyday. Everyone calls him Jon the Pirate. It kind of look something like this.

mentioned, but I don’t want to be known as "Anon the Pirate", even if it’s a term of endearment. It’s still seen as eccentric and weird, and makes you constantly stick out like a sore thumb. Sometimes you want to be able to blend in, and to convince people that you’re completely normal, and even socially successful (say, for a job interview for any position other than "pirate history re-enactor").

Moral of the story is, wear whatever you want. If its quality/ doesn’t look like a costume and you actually like it, you can probably pull it off. No one ever commented negatively about it or made fun of him for it. Everyone just thought it was cool. It also probably helps the guy was pretty charismatic.

You have been visited by the great tsar of russia.
Good style and not being a pussy will come to you, but only if you type:
"A TSAR WEARS WHAT HE WANTS!"

I can and soon it will be this one. But we all have to work together in just wearing what we want regardless of what normal people and self conscious spazzes think. The sooner we all start wearing our true desired fits the sooner everyone else will follow.
Be the change you want to be Op 🙂
    >That outfit
I put that outfit, fur boots, gloves, and a hood on my character whenever I’m in the upper part of the map for larping purposes. I pretend that the cold affects me more since I’m argonian and reptiles are cold blooded. I only wear light wear in snow on my nord character due to frost resistance :>

You live in an era where 80 year old men can dress up like japanese middle school girls and people will applaud and call them brave. This is as close as you’re going to get. Enjoy it. It won’t last.
