can be taught? no because it starts with you and your ability to develop an inner world or an outer world if you are an extravert.
the musical skill to execute and achieve soul can and should be taught but that filter comes after the first filter that i mentioned.
why do retards keep spamming this bugman
retards preoccupy themselves with things they don't like, and they're angry when people they don't like are successful.
"soul" isn't a thing. and this is a false dichotomy anyway. if you want to stimulate a better discussion, start with a better premise.
its a casual reference to passion. stop being gay, you know what it means.
To be fair I didn't think you were referring to "passion" either. Not trying to harp on you but that guy was kind of right. It sucks that well thought out propositions get practically no responses on LULZ - so I see where you're coming from - but you also can't expect interesting conversations to sprout from poorly constructed propositions.
thanks for being understanding, i'm not a linguist but it definitely means something, i'm not gonna sit down and argue wishy washy semantics
eh, you can't really say whether or not something has "passion" either. plenty of people give it all they've got and are still laughably shit. others successfully phone in their fake "emotion"
>i'm not gonna sit down and argue wishy washy semantics
well the alternative is for everyone to talk past each other, since there's no common, well-established understanding
soul is definitely a thing. It's like God, you can't see it but you can feel it
if you just post memes it means you don't have anything worthwhile to say
a picture speaks a thousand words
figures you'd respond with another dumb cliche
A thousand words about how you're a fag maybe.
While discourse around "soul" in its contemporary online usage is bogged down by memes and cliches, it is a "thing" that can be said to exist. There's no tidy term that encapsulates it in the English language but Japanese culture has "wabi-sabi" which includes an appreciation for the imperfect.
The trouble with people like Jacob Collier is that even when he decides to compose in a way that includes imperfections, those musical gestures are calculated on a technical level, which undermines the sincerity that derives from the organic kernel of human creativity, because at bottom are still technical calculations. When people interpret this disconnect they call that art as lacking "soul".
ahhh so ah so me likea de wabisabi on me flied lice lol or should i say ror
Everyone has soul, but you have to know how to express it
Loving Jacob taught me that I have no soul. His is beautiful, and I am less than nothing in comparison.
In theory soul can be taught but the people who lack soul think it doesn't exist. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
well this is pre-supposing it exists without offering any evidence
this is what i mean
circular reasoning isn't reasoning
You're born with your own, unique soul. I think you just have to realize how to express it. Btw, I haven't heard JC's original music, but his cover of Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing is undoubtedly soulful.
I've loved his covers, improvs, and live performances I've heard; but his original compositions have felt lacking to me. I'd like to delve deeper and try giving him a fairer shake, but I've yet to see any positive recommendations for any of his original material.
And it's not due to some sort of bias against virtuosi. I'm a virtuoso musician myself. I just find his original material bloated, confused, and clichéd though it's become to say, soulless.
>I'm a virtuoso musician myself
Prove it
its like frank zappa
but shit
So just like Zappa?
zappa has at least one good album (Joe's garage)
dude in OPs pic is just every bad habit of zappa with none of the edge or wot
Second thread I see you saying exactly that
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/21_grams_experiment
This guy tried to measure the weight of the human soul. He came to the conclusion it weighed 21 grams. He would weight before death and at the moment of death. Of course you can explain it with various factors. Still fascinating.
Yeah it was bullshit though. Fascinating the same way that N-rays are fascinating.
I know it was bullshit. Hence why I said "of course you can explain it".
orgone is kinda fun too
Jacob might uncover a soul if he undergoes a debilitating heroin addicton
It can't be taught but can be developed (generally through suffering)
you have to have a father
Taught.
picrel: the soul provider
I have no fucking idea.
