I have this crazy theory that maybe the ancients wanted to terraform so they build them to make mountains. Eh, it kinda falls apart when you consider egypt is a desert while latin america is a jungle, but still
culture that's built up due to idea echo chambers.

There are a lot of things about them that are truly mind-bending:
0. The Khufu pyramid is a 43200:1 scale representation of the Earth, just in a pyramid shape not a sphere. There are 43200 seconds in 12 hours.

Consequently, because the moon is also strangely interrelated to the Earth via the golden mean ration, the pyramid's dimensions can also be extended to model the Earth-Moon system;

1. The biggest pyramids at the necropolis (Khufu, Khafre, etc) are also the oldest. The crude step-pyramids you see are not a progression of complexity that moved in increasing magnitude like your OP pic suggests. They were all built long after the smooth-sided giant pyramids were finished. There is no logical explanation for the decline in complexity of the pyramids across egyptian history.
2. The Khufu pyramid rests on a large "sockle" of blocks slightly larger than the pyramid itself. The ratio between the pyramid and this sockle is the same ratio as the earth's oblateness between its poles and equator. This ratio cannot be derived mathematically and requires timekeeping technology that wouldn't officially exist until the 15th century* (see antikythera)
3. The entire horizontal passage is constructed very differently than the rest of the interior passages. The blocks are spaced apart and an organic polymer grout exists between them. Behind these blocks sand has been poured in. These features indicate the passage was designed to flex several inches in total cross-section under some sort of thermal or hydraulic load.
4. The Khufu pyramid is partially sitting on a large slab of limestone that was once a mountain. Because of this, the foundation blocks of the pyramid are cut with interlocking nodules that sit in the bedrock across half the pyramid while an artificial foundation slabs on the other half lacks the nodules. This is an extremely competent method of making the pyramid resist earthquake damage, as it "dump" vibrational energy in the environment into its foundation more efficiently than if it was situated entirely on rock or sand.
5. There are really 4 kinds of blocks used in the construction; casing, structural, monolithic and fill. Today we mostly see only structural blocks; weighing on average 50-80 tons. The monolithic blocks used to support the interior structures are 150-200 tons. These rocks were moved hundreds of miles across land and water and carried several hundred feet above sea level into position. To this day, no infrastructure exists along the Nile that could have managed such a project.
6. The entire history of the Old Kingdom as it pertains to the pyramids was codified by the Greek Herodotus, who lived a thousand years after they pyramids were supposedly built. To this day, the ONLY piece of evidence supporting this timeline is a SINGLE ledger of 1 ton of gravel being shipped to the necropolis via barge. In a vastly legal and educated society, where we've found people's homework, the only evidence for such a massive project is a single scroll of papyrus.
