I got fucking smoked by one in my foxbody BITD. Didn't know what they were at the time, this was back in like '01 or '02.
the early ones were pretty weak, it's only the later model years that had real performance
slow
>0-60 in 4.4s
damn, not bad at all for 1987.
Pretty fucking good for rwd slushbox in 1987, pretty fucking good today
GN were used by the FBI against drug cartels. BAD ASS
That's faster than the corvette at the time.
That's why GM killed the grand national
Nothing is allowed to be faster than the corvette
It's why the Caddy XLR had a detuned engine
they also constantly gimped the Trans Am for this reason as well
fucking GM
These and cyclone/typhoons were just on another level compared to anything out there. Yes, g bodies aren’t the best around turns, but grand nations were just bad ass.
are these vents fake?
no, they're actually real, one of the few buick fender portholes that are
The originals were cooler.
>The idea for VentiPorts grew out of a modification Buick styling chief Ned Nickles had added to his own 1948 Roadmaster. Four amber lights were installed on each side of the car’s hood which were wired to the distributor. The lights flashed on and off as each piston fired which was supposed to simulate the flames from the exhaust stack of a fighter airplane.
>can anyone hate on the grand national?
Look at any Regal coupe and tell me the bumpers are not fucking dumb. Every other GM RWD coupe of the era had the bumpers tucked, Buick has them sticking out just enough so you can rip your leg on them when walking by.
>are these vents fake?
Nope, well needed, removed excess heat and helped a little with preventing the front end float at higher speeds. Aero on these cars could have been so much better.
>best interior
By interior I'm gonna guess you mean 'dash' since all the GM A/G coupes had pretty much the same interior. And as far as dashes go, no. Buick didn't even have a Tachometer offering.
Chevy had the similar CAWKpit surround, GP had so many fucking spots for non existent gauges. Cutlass had the best dash, and you could get one with actual functional gauges.
>I also hate everyone that takes a Regal T-Type and makes a GN clone out of it.
Those are the worst. Lots of Turbo-Ts and lightweights ruined by wannabe GN fags.
>Didn't Ford put a pretty hot 3.7 V6 in the Mustang recently? I think it was only around for a year or two.
Yup, it was under-advertised from 2011-2017. It was far superior to the 4.0 it replaced. 305HP and 30MPGs. It was a win win combo, but this was also the time of the revamped GT500 (662HP) Boss 302, and Laguna Seca models, and all the normies were creaming their pants for the new Coyote 400HP GT. So it really got buried under all the other models.
A 2014 3.7 MT coupe would be a pretty fun car to have.
>>3.5 EcoBoost in a new Ranger would be nice too.
3.5 is a bit too big for the Ranger.
If the 3.0EB was offered in a normie Ranger, rather than Raptor, then there would be some serious fun.
can i just slap a turbo on any 3800?
FWIW in GM-land four digit displacements, such as 3800, mean FWD while 2 digits, like 3.8, means RWD.
As for the question, sure, just as much as any other engine. GM didn't do a whole lot with the Turbo 3.8 with the main differences being an oil drain back boss into the lifter valley from the front and steel struts in the pistons so they could take more power without going to forged.
It's faster than my Cuda but I don't care because I love me Plymouth simple as.
>v6
>4 speed slushbox
Why are v6 ponycars considered cringe but every boomer cooms at the sight of a grand nat?
Because every other V6 pony car aside from the Trans Am that borrowed the GN engine doesn't have a turbo. Keep in mind a '87 Camaro V6 made 135hp 160tq vs the 276hp 350tq in the GNX.
>Because every other V6 pony car aside from the Trans Am that borrowed the GN engine doesn't have a turbo.
And yet I bet if Ford put a 3.5 EcoBoost in the Mustang, everyone would still call it gay, but keep cumming over GN
modern V6s sound like shit. the GNX had this ghostly wail that actually made it sound more like a muscle car than a ricer.
>mental gymnastics
Thanks for proving my point, nostalgiafag
Didn't Ford put a pretty hot 3.7 V6 in the Mustang recently? I think it was only around for a year or two. 3.5 EcoBoost in a new Ranger would be nice too.
Manuals fall out of boost and are way slower for the GN, have seen ppl spend big money to manual swap only to find out its now slow as shit
holy copium that sounds major skill issue for a shiftlet
Clearly you have never driven a big single turbo. If you manual swap a gn, you will get slower, many have tried
The grand national made the rest of the world's car manufacturers wet their diapers. That's coming from a Ford guy. Also stop overusing boomer. Every car guy creams themselves to these things. Go back to n
>if you hate a malaise v6 autotragic barge, that means you hate all cars
Dumb retard
I bet you drive a civic you beaner fuck
Well, it's more that you'd even describe it like that but overall yes. You really don't have to pretend to like cars you can just do something else. Nobody will miss you and you might find something you do like. Win win.
>nostalgiafag still seething and doing mental gymnastics because not everyone likes his autotragic v6 barges
If it was made in the last 10 years, you wouldn't like it either
Another retard that thinks everyone is the same person. No, I like cars including new. You can find what you do like like I said, we won't miss you
>You can find what you do like
But I know what I like? V8, manual, RWD, like God intented. Not some gay turbo v6 and a 4 speed slushbox.
I'm sure you do
Kinda cool.
Unfortunately there the boomer version of a Mk4 Supra. "Grand National" is just a option for a Buick T-type. Most of them (if you see them on the road) aren't the legendary GNX that everyone thinks they are, and are really the only quick ones out of the factory, not saying they weren't quick or some guys didn't make it fast but ur dad's buddy's cousins probably just chopped the exhaust off it, raced a 5L, and became shittsville fastest grocery getter.
V6 that shat on indy v8s at the time
This they only way to beat it is by cheating.
PUSHRODS PUSHGODS
Ain't grand national what started world war one?
>Pontiac and Buick want to make a sports truck
>GM doesn't want them making trucks under their name
>They work with GMC to create a sports truck under their name instead
>Get pic related
Wonder what else they could have done if GM didn't kill Pontiac and forced Buick to make vehicles for Chinese bugmen.
makes me upset Buick hasn't even come close to making a machine so great since
>Wonder what else they could have done if GM didn't kill Pontiac and forced Buick to make vehicles for Chinese bugmen.
probably still have them be the designated Holden rebadge brand because GM doesn't give a single fuck about anything that isn't Chevy
The thing about those is that they kill rod bearings with merry abandon which GN's almost never do.
best interior
>malaise domestic shitpile
Gee, I wonder.
Normal people leave the places they dislike. They don't just stick around and tell all the people happy with the place they are how miserable they are. Meaning go hate America somewhere else. But further and more importantly on o, go hate cars somewhere else. I bet if asked, Toyota himself God rest his soul would have expressed appreciation for this vehicle as well as any euro brands leaders. Matter of fact, they all did. Go back to n/
I hate how so many of them have under 1000 miles on them and will never be enjoyed properly.
I also hate everyone that takes a Regal T-Type and makes a GN clone out of it.
I'll continue to admire them from afar due to their cancerous transmission
They are worth more than their weight in gold. Fuck I want one.
Fuck stealerships!
its squatting
>its squatting
Nope.
Silly aftermarket exhaust on OPs pic and the roofline make it look like that.
A pillar is the tallest point on these car. Roof slopes down at the C pillar.
Most of the normie coupes will have sagging front springs, from profile view it's not noticeable as the roofline then looks horizontal.
