No better place to ask I guess, I need to make a trip north in december in my country where winter tyres are mandatory, but most of the weather up there will probably be rain I'm talking like a 90/10 split chance for it to rain rather than snow, I'll be staying one day so I'll be buying the cheapest tyres possible for this just to get by the law.
Now, any good reccommendations? I am on 245/40/18 and it's a RWD 530i.
What I've seen in my budget is the fortuna gowin uhp, superia snow HP and westlake Z-507
everything but the westlake had reviews such as "Fitted this to my 330d, car lost traction at highway speeds and almost killed me"
Only the westlakes have good reviews, but they're mostly from people who drive them on icy roads, my trip will consist of probably 700km of rain or damp road and maybe maybe the rest might be snow. Might all be dry too, I AM dependend on a single day after all.
There is no possible way buying a set of tires for 1 day is a better value than just renting a car or taking a taxi or something
Dont you brag about your trains all the time? Take one of those
>Dont you brag about your trains all the time?
Who the fuck do you think I am exactly? In my country a train has a max speed of 65kmh and takes an entire day to cross 500km.
Renting is also a non possibility because this shithole is full of scammers that don't give you your deposit back.
I think I figured it out, I'll just go to a tyre shop and ask for used tyres that they might have and just use those for a day.
don't?
who is gonna check?
Thats illegal
Yeah I would but pilot sport 4Ss are not exactly known for their wet/snow performance. And I'm taking my kid to a check up on this trip so I'd rather not risk it that hard.
oh so this entire thing is just contrived nonsense because you got bored with your tires and want new ones but dont have the balls to just go buy what you want
What? How the fuck did you come to that conclusion? Why would I be unhappy with my tyres, I have to pass a legal inspection to drive my kid to a checkup, the requirements are winter tyres.
Is this hard to understand?
I drove 5 hours in heavy unplowed snow on my Michelin la you pussy boy. Did you really need to make a second fucking thread about this?
>second fucking thread
First thread I've made in 7 years retarded schizo.
Also driving in snow isn't the problem as stated above nagger. it's the legal loophole.
Wet, yes. Cold/ice/snow, nope.
>fortuna gowin uhp, superia snow HP and westlake Z-507
What the fuck are those brands? Chinkshit? Never heard of them.
Buy Nokian, Continental or some other quality tires which doesn't look bad in tests by ~~*journos*~~ and gets good buyer reviews (in countries with actual snow).
Have you read anything EXCEPT that? I told you I'm going to a place that 90% isn't even gonna have snow and it's for a DAY. why would I waste almost 1000€ on tyres which I'm gonna use once? I have perfectly good summers on the car and I live in a place with good weather.
You're fucking retarded
>on tyres which I'm gonna use once?
No, you're going to use them for the entire trip.
kek what? the trip is tuesday head up, wednesday head down. That's like 30 hours.
Isn't that what I said?
The thing you're failing to understand is that you will be driving on this set of shitty tires for the entire fucking duration of your trip, unless you bring a set of wheels with you and do the change at some point.
Just get some chains to put on your all-seasons.
Man I'm fuckin done you're all retarded.
>bought BMW
>can't afford mandatory winter tires
>calls others retarded
>mandatory winter tires
They're mandatory for one part of the country that I visit every 9 fucking months, why the fuck would I have winter tyres if one part of the country hasn't seen snowfall since 1982
If these trips are regular, it's even more reasonable to buy a set of decent tires.
Why do kids need checkups? Is yours broken?
>reccommendations
>dependend
>tyre
>km
>these are the people having children
Yep, you can stay at home and seethe and die forgotten while I have 3 kids who will continue my legacy infinitely.
Are you bringing all three with you on that trip?
Nah just my youngest and my wife.
Your genetics will be scrambled beyond recognition within a couple generations if it even lasts that long (oldest extant bloodline is only 5000 years old and its chinese)
Your memory will be utterly forgotten within three generations.
Infinite? Lmao I sure do love the copes of simpletons
In this size for cheap you got the Falken
Eurowinter HS01 or Kumho Wintercraft WP72. Anything cheaper is Chinese garbage for which I hope you'll be driving alone instead of endangering the people dumb enough to trust you with life-saving equipment.
Thank you for actual recommendations, I will check them out.
WTH man just buy good ones and use them to make more trips north
OP, buy steelies, and mount tires on that.
Buy the smallest diameter steelie that will clear your calipers, its usually the same size as your spare.
steelies are cheap, and normal non-low profile winter tires are also cheap.
you can also look on CL to find a set that will fit your studs.
get them from tirerack, they most likely have a winter set on steelies that will fit your car. mounted, and balanced, and shipped for free. best deal
we have already been over this discussion 1000 times.
buy michelin or buy linglongs from chang. any brand thats not michelin is a chinese clone of michelin
I doubt its illegal to drive there for only one day and the mandatory thing is probably about having snowchains in the car and you just never understood the signs.
this, op should tell us his country so we can google it for him
In Quebec its not legal to drive without winter tires from December 1 to March 15. Cops are actually on the lookout for it (easy to spot on icy roads) and will mercilessly ticket you for it.
Canada's not a real country
buy a used tire and rim combo that fits your car, dont care about looks or dimensions just one that does the job this time and maybe a few more in the future
these ones go for 380€ here and if you drive a 530 but cant afford that you confirm some of my stereotypes of bmw drivers.
>if you drive a 530 but cant afford that you confirm some of my stereotypes of bmw drivers.
Yeah the TRUE REAL BMW DRIVER would blow a thousand bucks on a set of t ires he'll use one day. Fuckin retard.
so you cant afford 380€ for a set you can slap on right there in the parking lot then stow away for the next trip or are you actually planning to have the tires mounted on the rims you currently have and then swapped back once you are home? you can probably find a set even cheaper on rusted steelies and more worn tires but come on...
>having a BMW
>not having a spare thousand here and there for when it shits the bed again
I mean how do you even take care of the car?
>having a BMW
>planning to buy absolute Chinkshit
>for the only thing connecting the said BMW and the road
>in adverse weather conditions
>while being inexperienced at driving in such conditions
>calls someone else retard
any driver who didnt finance himself into eternal debt to buy a turkmobile will have money for tires an he gave you a cheap option, good luck getting new ones for that
Michelin rain stuff was pretty cool when I had one. One was good enough.
Remember to buy your tires from real shops and not mega chains.
your a bad driver if you need winter tyre's
