Funny how a rise in solar and wind power always coincides with higher electricity costs. Could be a coincidence.

Wind’s cheap. Problem is how energy is traded as a commodity and the wholesale price of energy being utterly arse raped by the exorbitant price of gas.
Energy’s going to get nationalised eventually anyway. The big energy firms are going to go bust if they keep operating like this. Government will just step in and run them at a loss.

On a price per kw basis, wind literally mogs gas. It’s also literally our most abundant resource since we have the perfect climactic and geographic conditions to exploit offshore wind.

How much is your electricity, Brit?

£100, but I live in a small one bed cottage and I dry all my clothes on a line so I’m by no means average.

What about the cost of their intermittency ?

          Anonymous

Wind’s a constant in the UK. The problem isn’t that wind’s unreliable here (again, perfect climactic conditions), it’s that we don’t have sufficient reserve in nuclear to make up for what wind can’t deliver at the moment.
Since energy is traded wholesale as a commodity (based capitalism strikes again) if company A buys “energy” it’s just traded at the going rate for what that costs to generate - which is dictated by gas - then sold to you, the consumer (with profit added), at that rate.
The simple solution to this? Give gas the rope. But since we went shit for brains gub gub retarded with this conservative government and decided China = bad, the construction of new nuclear power plants is mired in inactivity. “NO THE CHINESE HAVE A SHARE ;_;” so what? “B-BUT CHINA BAD”

        >Wind’s cheap. Problem is how energy is traded as a commodity and the wholesale price of energy being utterly arse raped by the exorbitant price of gas.
You're clueless. The reason electricity is so expensive is because of wind power you nonce.

          >”SEE WIND BAD”
Was this your best hottest take lmao?

The wholesale spot price of energy right now is just shy of £100. Artificially raising the cost of wind because… muh investors, increases the cost of wind to £77 which still mogs the wholesale price.
          Stick to GB news lmao.
