it could be worse, but take in mind it was "profesional" work, by someone who studied "art"

For the love of Christ, please tell me these were corrected. We didn't actually allow people to make purposeful revisions and just leave it when we know what it's supposed to look like?

they weren't, "repair" happened in 2018
        now some people started complaining
"artist" don't react to phone calls
and town hall says it's fine

          >town hall says it's fine
It'd be an awful shame if some anonymous vandal threw paint stripper all over it, damaging it to the point that it would require extensive restoration and reworking. Ideally by someone who isn't a historical revisionist.

this one wasn't, but the original was a copy of a non-famous work by a non-famous author, it was also very lucrative for the church and village thanks to all the merchandise and tourism to see the painting.

they hired a random grandma for this kek

I kinda feel bad for the random grandma, she did fuck it up but the monks shouldn't have hired her and most of the blame went to her, that can be pretty overwhealming to an old person

public art, architecture, symbols, things people see every day, these things matter. making a mockery of something the people were once proud of is narcissitic, petty, and an offense to all the people.

art's highest goal should be to beautify, inspire, and make the world a better place. not humiliate and offend the powerless, just to satisfy one's own ego.

                >things people see every day
I saw the clock every day for about a decade (worked next door). I still would never have noticed the change in the panels. They're not that visible individually from street level.

there is no goal to art. For sure putting your dog in the painting is stupid and nagger brain tier but art has no grand purpose like inspire people or anything.
If art (fine arts) had a goal I think, it would be to define what art is, and doing the same thing over and over is stupid and naggerish

                Anonymous

Except they were commissioned to restore, not redesign. You can't define art, art is a catchall for creatives and doesn't denote anything. You'd be better off using words like content.

                Anonymous

I can't define art, but for some reason with experience and an open mind I find myself agreeing with experienced people on what makes interesting art and I often find it beautiful, sometimes I find it shitty and stupid but still there is a tendency here.
And if the original painting is some shitty generic thing I won't care if some guy decided to troll some people and put his dog in
