so he was a coward who fled his nation and people in their most dire hour to live in comfort instead of falling on his sword like any honorable but failed commander should?
Look no further. The ultimate suicide book.
Banned by the Shah for making his regime look bad (even though it seemed pretty apolitical to me), unbanned after the Iranian Revolution, and then re-banned because it is cursed and makes its readers commit suicide just like its author.
It did not make me kill myself (yet) but I can definitely see why it comes across that way. The word "disturbing" gets thrown around all the time for anything mildly scary these days but this book is genuinely unsettling to read because it feels like you're looking at the world through the deranged, possessed eyes of the craziest homeless man you've ever met. The narration spirals in on itself and depicts a person completely unable to comprehend reality, drowning in paranoia and despair.
