I've seen a similar tweet once but with funnier book titles, it had an entry about bringing Hitler back to life. Meanwhile "sad boy" 4 times is lazy and that trope is normally attributed to Russian literature only.

Try Stendhal, Balzac, Dumas, Moliere, Rabelais, Hugo, Voltaire, Zola, Baudelaire, Maupassant, Gide, Artaud, Diderot or Perec.
In fact, try anyhing but Houellebecq, Proust and Camus.

This would be funny if the summaries were either a bit more specific (the funniest entries being dosto and hvalen) or if the imagined person conjured who reads all these sad books were. However, this is a list of generic attributes, collected together.
      >sad american family
      >sad boy w/ girl
      >sad french gay boy
are three summaries which each describe hundreds of "classics", but not in any meaningful sense, and certainly not specific enough to even be more popular among male than female readers. As it stands, I know like three women for whom that list describes their favorite books, and no men who have read anything that fits the above outside of Grapes of Wrath and Search for Lost Time. Both of which are more popular among women anyway.

This is flawless. I teach. It's shockingly true. This semester I got one titled "Gender and The Female in Joseph Conrad: Gendering Conrad's Women" from a graduating senior. Within 4 years they're all spouting the exact same ideological swill. None of my suggested paper topics touch on this at all and I only teach totally formalism/semiotics so it's fascinating reading 15 of the same paper proposals for every class.

I don't specifically care what women think about literature. Mostly they prefer generic romances and memoirs, because in a woman's mind doing anything too challenging or out of the ordinary has to be justified, with the presumption that you should conform to what everyone else is doing and not rock the boat.

This is really weird. I don't know any women who read anything remotely good. It is either Sarah Maas, something marketed to look exactly like sarah maas, a thriller about a maverick police detective inevitably named Jack, or Harry Potter. Women I know seem to realise this and are aware that their taste in books is kind of shit. My sister is first violin in an orchestra and she exclusively listens to classial music. I'm not going to suggest she listen to my Stereophonics albums because I know my taste in music is inferior to hers. I always figured it was much the same with literature.
