India was named after the southern portion of a Pakistani river. No clue why they kept that British-given name so long.

I know Bharat is technically the countries native name, but it just sound so much more retarded than India

Well the alternative is being named after a Pakistani province which you'd think would piss them off.

      >British given
      You mean Greek/Persian given?

No, it's definitely British given, even if it's Persian in origin.

"India" and its variants has been used to describe that V shaped subcontinent for well over 500+ years. The Portuguese got there long before the Brits and called it Índia

Bharat makes them sound like some random 3rd world SEA nation that no one's ever heard of.

lmao, I said the exact same thing. Its true though, and whats funny is that I cannot articulate exactly why. Bharat really does sound like the name of some small SEA country

False but I support Bharat because native americans prefer to be called indians and they're better than hindus so they can have the name

I sort of off-hand mentioned I would like to visit India to a couple talking about their recent trip there (White male, Indian female couple). The woman asked why in a sort of surprised way and then told me there's nothing worth seeing in India and that it's an overcrowded shithole and that the only nice part was Goa.
